Artificial World Created by Department of Defense

Computer scientists working with the Department of Defense have apparently created a virtual world modeled on the real one. The program runs scenarios through billions of data points to look at trends and to try and predict what governments, economic interests and smaller groups would do in given situations. This is a simplistic overview of what the program (ominously named “Sentient World Simulation”) reportedly can do.

According to a small announcement from Purdue University’s “Homeland Security Institute”:

Sentient World Simulation (SWS) will be a continuously running, continually updated mirror model of the real world that can be used to predict and evaluate future events and courses of action. SWS will react to actual events that occur anywhere in the world and in corporate newly sensed data from the real world. SWS will provide the ability to examine the likely progression of the status-quo as well as explore any “what if” scenarios.

I wonder if they have run the “aliens are here and there’s nothing we can do about it” scenario through the SWS?

Greg, when I first read this I had recently come across some of those “TED Talks” vids that demonstrate the latest known (as in non-black budget) tech inventions including the internet image software like SeaDragon and PhotoSynth:

That, along with the 30 year old known computing powers of the NSA’s Echelon hardware, the Octopus’ Inslaw PROMIS software, along with the newer tech I pointed out in the thread below, this technology does provide plenty of grist for my own paranoia.

I’d say that the “Alien Invasion / Revelation” strategem has most certainly been WarGamed plenty over the years.

Oh yeah, and I found these news items incredibly synchronistic in their back to back timing:

    Smiles,

    My feelings:

Paranoid scenario: More reasons to be vigilant and resist.

Not so paranoid version: 1) Those tasked with protecting this country always want an angle. 2) Marketing is even more evil than we imagine.

The “correct” attitude is probably somewhere between these two.
