The Minnesota-based Center for Reichian Crypto-Anthropology announces it's new side-project: The Church of Big Black Triangles. An aggressive marketing strategy, a la the Mormons, will proceed, with projected business revenues in the billions, all stemming from the CRCA's obscure Reichian channelling of our motto:

"Numen Est Omen." -- Nandor Fodor

The Church of the Big Black Triangle finally solves the mystery of transubstantiation -- what Jung failed to solve, as he called it: The 3 in 1 problem. Worshipping the "form of the formless" aka the snake goddess or what in Reichian terms is called the "disc of the dragon" we at the Church of the Big Black Triangle are confident in the return of our abductees or, we mean, disciples.

There's a new report from Fullerton from a witness that was closer.

Now I'm really puzzled

Chris,

I think the reversed approach at LAX was probably due to the reversal (or nearly so) of the prevailing winds as well.

I don't know what the approach for Ontario, Long Beach, or John Wayne airports were that evening, but all but one of the UFO reports mentioned another light seemingly circling the main light. I don't know what would explain this, as well as the "tail" that everyone initially observed on the main light.

I am under the impression (from the reports) that the witnesses were looking at this from different angles, which throws doubt on the landing lights theory, as they all said that the light was stationary for quite awhile.

There might be a good explanation for all of these aspects. If so, I'd like to see them.

Greg -

Ceiling height at FUL would be good to know even though the 5pm report at FUL was "mostly cloudy." I was in the mid-Wilshire and downtown area during the time frame and at that time the early pieces of the storm front were overhead and by 7pm it was raining pretty hard.

One thing I did notice that day was that the flight paths at LAX were reversed west-to-east (land over water, take off over city) to route traffic around the storm system. I confirmed this with the LAX Flight Checker and rolling back to the early evening of the 26th. I couldn't find TRACON data for ONT or SNA, but SNA does occasionally reverse flight tracks should weather conditions dictate it.

Where I'm going with this is that the light-with-a-tail description sounds a lot like a airliner with full landing lights on approaching head-on at ceiling level. Not saying that's what it was, but after living underneath the SNA and El Toro approach paths for years, you tend to notice what's normal and what's unusual.

I stop by that Brea location of The Hat pretty often too. Terrific pastrami!

Greg:

"They" obviously know where you live and were putting on a show. You'll never be safe from them now. Doubtless it will only be a matter of time before that slow, ominous knock on the door occurs and the MIB show up...

crg,

Good theory, but I don't know if the TV stations or newspapers know how many people actually saw the lights. It was on a Saturday during dinner time, after all.

Chris,

On the link above, the sightings are placed between 5:50 and 6:30. According to the weather records for that time, the sky was overcast. Between 6:50 and 7:50 PM, it started raining. None of the reports mention clouds, but the ceiling may have been high. In fact, this makes the reports more interesting, since the events would have taken place below the cloud cover. Perhaps this made the objects more visible.
