RPJ,

I got hooked on the UFO thing partially because of the APRO books by the Lorenzens, who were perhaps one of the first groups to look into South American cases. They had the North American stories beat for weird and scary details. This "boiling oil" account makes me feel like I'm 10 years old again, going to the library to check out UFO books like a fiend.

misteranderson,

You can't make any sense out of it or verify it, at least not very well. I just thought that it was interesting. If it's made up, it's still interesting to me as a pretty strange folk tale.

No, it's not going to advance any study or "solve" the UFO question, but it's a good story.

Man, if only I had a Flying Saucer to terrorize all those people that smoke on forbidden zones! ;-)

Ok, seriously, all those "Chupa Chupas" cases from Brazil in the 1970s are all really weird and interesting. I've read about them on spanish magazines like "Enigmas" and "Año cero", and I'm glad they are being discussed on english-speaking forums.

How can anyone make sense of that case? How can one verify any of this?
