UFO Spies And The Game

We are conditioned to fear that which we do not understand. By reading the available online literature, specifically a new post by George Hansen (author of the indespensible and excellent book The Trickster and the Paranormal) indiscriminate readers might think that three of the speakers presenting lectures at the X-Conference in a couple of weeks are simply dangerous liars. What we might fail to appreciate is that any time former intelligence people decide to speak publicly, it may be just as important to listen to what they say as to listen with a skeptical ear–in other words, turn off the filters until the message is fully received.

Col. John Alexander, Bruce Maccabee and C.B. Jones are scheduled to give presentations. All three were (or were rumored to be) part of a group that convened in the early 1980s which became known as the “Aviary.” This informal organization, composed of current and former intelligence employees (as well as a couple of high-profile ufologists) covened on an occasional schedule for almost ten years to discuss UFOs, government secrecy, and counterintelligence activites. For more info on this, see my two posts on the subject.

The subject of Alexander’s talk is not listed. Maccabee’s lecture is called “Tales of the Hawk: A retired AF colonel who worked at the Air Technical Intelligence Center at Wright Patterson AFB had his own ‘cover up’ experiences.” This is presumably in reference to Lt. Col. Ernie Kellerstrauss, who for a time was assigned to handle UFO information from Wright-Pat and its possible use as a counterintelligence tool. To exhibit who was really in charge, I have been told that he sent a couple of UFO researchers on a late night sojourn to a restricted area of an Air Force facility, then later informed them that they were watched while they did it. Presumably, this was done to both freak out the Ufologists as well as perhaps some sort of security excercise.

Why did these people (and others, presumably) go along with this weird and sometimes frightening game? The main point was to pry UFO information from the government. While it is debatable that anything of value was ever released, the fact that the Air Force, CIA, NSA and many other alphabet soup organizations were interested in UFOs as an intelligence tool, and spead crazy rumors as one of these tools, was virtually unknown in ufology at the time. While many continue to believe strange and completely unfounded (and often off-the-map unbelievable) stories, others have tried to learn from the events of this period. Those that do have a new litmus test for at least some veracity when dealing with new UFO information. It seems the less likely the story, the more we should at least consider the possibility that it is being spead for reasons other than simple stupidity, craziness or money.

Jones is presenting a lecture listed as:

Plan C: A Global Program Preparing for Disclosure”  Plan C is designed to accomplish three objectives: (1) Prepare the global public for disclosure, (2) Influence the strategy for disclosure by terrestrial Controllers to achieve the most positive outcome for everyone, and (3) Send a message to the Visiting Others that we are really concerned, trying hard to prepare for and to implement disclosure, and that we expect them to honor the complexity of the problems we are trying to handle.

Jones has apprarently jumped on the “imminent disclosure” bandwagon. He was the architect of a 1995 conference called “When Cosmic Cultures Meet,” which examined what might happen if we were faced with with the prospect of a meeting with extraterrestrial beings, so in a sense, he was the original “disclosure” cheerleader. As a member of the original “Aviary,” he may have been privy to information that most of us were not. Were the stories he was told designed to disinform him, or was he wittingly passing dubious facts on to others? Both? Neither? Jones had a career in Naval Intelligence, and has been interested in parasychology for many years. He has also been rumored to be gathering information for use in government projects, but this has not been proven as far as I know.

In the middle of this tangled web, many often forget that to be effective, disinformation must contain a grain or more of truth, but with UFOs, where does this truth lie? Although some may not see it as worth the time to sift through the dreck to find any gold, I find it interesting that these men seem to have a genuine interest in the subject, and play their game with us and those in “need to know’ government postions in order to further their own knowledge. By carefully listening to their public statements we may gain insights to the UFO subject from people who are admittedly more on the inside of one view of the phenomenon than most of us.

The main problem with this state of affairs is that they may never fully share what they find with anyone outside of their circle. As Hansen concludes:

Whatever one may think of Jones and Alexander, one cannot reasonably conclude that they have worked to inform the public about government-UFO activities. They have fostered ambiguity and suspicion, and perhaps worse. One might be skeptical of any statements they may make on the topic.

Perhaps this skpeticism should be tempered with a careful examination of their statements, and perhaps a few probing questions when these people appear in public. Any ambivalence we feel could close us off from something valuable they might say, wittingly or not.

This is just another Cold War hangover akin to the fantasy of the X files among many that we must form our opinions or a consensus reality by edicts arising from
an elite group, a self proclaimed priesthood who have burrowed their way into an unintelligible bureaucracy and have pulled a rabbit out of their hats.
As Mr Hansen said it’s a big energy sink full of prattle. The politics of paranoia are no substitute for exploratory science…

  2. red pill junkie Says:

So, has Maccabee planted disinformation? And if so, was he fully aware of this?

  3. Greg Bishop Says:

    Bruce,

I didn’t want to suggest that listening to these people was a substitute for other types of research. It’s simply a tool, and one that interests me personally.

If they say that they believe that something non-human is interacting with us, is it simply part of an intelligence gambit or because they really believe it? I tend to think that they believe it. That’s interesting to me.

  4. Greg Bishop Says:

    RPJ,

Some have accused him of doing so. Interesting that Hansen doesn’t mention anything about Maccabee in his piece. From what I’ve heard and read about the man, I wouldn’t say it was out of the realm of possibility.

  5. TemplarScribe Says:

An image comes to mind that I think accurately describes the discussion regarding “Is it disclosure or disinfo?”

Terry Gilliam’s excellent (and equally disturbing) film “Brazil” included a sequence where Christmas packages were delivered to executives: little guillotine-looking devices euphemistically called “The Executive Decision Maker.” It was simply a crank that pulled an upside-down cone to a bracket, in order to drop it on a razor-like divider, with one side labeled “Yes,” the other “No.”

In the best of us, the most objective UFO researchers among us, we’ve all dropped that cone, and now rest on either the “Yes, there are aliens visiting us” side, or on the “No, it’s all either hallucination, disinfo or black ops” side.

What we need to accept, as difficult as it may be, is that our own government(s) may be lying to us every day (gee, what a shocker that is!). But equally as difficult for us to accept is that these lies may be mixed in with honest efforts by some of Those In The Know to reach out and involve us, simply because TITK have no way to affect the various intelligences visiting us, and that bugs the hell out of them.

Accepting for the moment that the tens of thousands of UFO and contactee reports include a sizable number of actual verifiable events, then we must accept no one single answer can explain them all away:

    - Are “they” off-worlders? Some apparently are, if the Fastwalker events recorded by NORAD are to be believed, and if the videos recorded by the Shuttle astronauts are accurate and unaltered (the STS-48 video comes to mind).

    - Are “they” traveling through time or dimensions in a way we do not yet understand? Again, entirely possible, although this does not explain a great number of events where hard, apparently physical craft are interacted with by human touch, by burn or radiation marks on the ground, or by radar and weather effects (the hole in the low-level cloud layer left by the UFO over O’Hare Concourse C on November 7th, 2006, is a perfect example of physical interaction).

    - Are some of the more recent events, images and accompanying videos hoaxed? This possibility must always be near at hand when considering current UFO activity, as the Australian hoax UFOs from the summer past certainly indicate, and as the current Drone images seem to suggest. And in this era where photo manipulation and CG talents are as prevalent as cell phones, we will never be 100% certain that an event is real, unless we view it with our own eyes, and have a trusted friend nearby to guarantee we’re not dreaming. This does not account, of course, for events like the battle of LA in 1942, nor of the thousands of credible sightings by Air Force and police personnel before the computer era.

    - Is some of what we’re being told part of a government plan to muddy the waters? It sure seems to me like the coverups attending the Roswell event show both a willingness to lie, as well as a willingness to threaten and intimidate witnesses. And the second event during the evening of the Phoenix Lights, where flares were dropped in an effort to obfuscate the earlier black triangle sightings, certainly prove beyond a doubt — to serious, objective investigators — that at least some elements of our military are actively participating in covering up UFO events, even as they happen.

I might suggest a further possibility:

Given, for the moment, that we are being visited by an advanced race or races. Given their level of scientific advancement, it’s likely to assume that they’ve done this sort of thing before, that we’re not the first semi-literate bipedal life forms with a great sense of humor and a surprisingly powerful death wish that they’ve encountered.

Given that their advanced and experienced contact units would be aware of previous encounters, we can assume they have a rational plan for dealing with intransigent, warring populaces like us: try and make contact through the leaders first, and if that fails, bypass the idiots and go straight to the people. Keep their technology juuust a little ahead of the possible, so that those who are witness to it know it’s not terrestrial. And mess with the nukes on occasion, to educate our leaders just how dangerous it is to play with matches.

Given that the past fifty years has demonstrated a nearly complete lack of honesty on the part of our government(s), it’s safe to assume that there are at least a few individuals that are frustrated with the lack of advancement, even among the supposedly ironclad Ultra Level Access personnel. It doesn’t take a great deal of imagination to picture a scenario where some of them basically throw up their hands, and start chopping up broccoli for the chicken noodle soup: a little of what you’ll swallow, and a little of what’s good for you that you normally wouldn’t touch.

I can easily believe that some of the personnel in the Disnfo camp may have it in their hearts to try and make the “info” half of the message as accurate and as honest as possible, knowing that even if such messages are not discernible in our own lifetimes, that in decades to come, their small shouts of freedom will eventually be heard and acknowledged.

I recall an interesting conversation with a highly decorated police officer who, while sitting in his patrol car, shared with me his very personal UFO encounter, and the almost unbelievable tale of his debriefing by Washington suits and the load of BS they fed him. I believe his UFO story, yet what am I to make about the BS section he was fed? Did the suits believe it themselves? Were they the originators of that part of the Disinfo, or merely one link in a long chain of lies?

In dealing with the UFO question, I’ve come to accept one thing: there may be no one answer for us to hang on to. We may have only possibilities, vague assurances and limited trusts, all accompanied by doubts and moderate disbelief. Nothing can be trusted, not our leaders, our best scientists, our senses, nor even our own memories.

To quote a thousand hand-lettered signs in gas stations all over this country, “In God we trust. All others pay cash.”

Hey Templar, nice to see you commenting here once more!

“Chopping up broccoli for the chicken noodle soup”… that was a good one :-)

  7. TemplarScribe Says:

Thenks, Red Pill. Been real busy lately, and not just with the three kids. I’m working on a screenplay for a producer with a three-week deadline, rewriting and completing someone else’s project. Finishing another person’s project is always the toughest thing to do.

Back to the topic at hand:

Maybe it’s the eternally pessimistic optimist in me (:^D), but I **have** to believe that those in the disinfo campaign have at their core a belief they’re doing what they think is best for the country (for whatever reasons). I also believe there are some who are dissatisfied with the disinfo campaign, and may be “freelancing,” for want of a better word, to disseminate some valuable info on their own.

If there are indeed elements in our military-industrial complex that are keeping this info to themselves, then it’s only human nature to find one or two, or ten or twenty, with enough info and enough morality to start dropping real info here and there. And the info is so compartmentalized, there may be some ITK that can do this without repercussion, just because of the fact that not enough handlers are operating above them to prevent it. Again, an optimistic assessment, I know.

I should point out, I’ve personally eliminated some possible solutions as to what’s going on, to wit:

    - This isn’t merely a cover-up for black ops. Let’s face facts: there are hundreds, if not thousands, of reports in Blue Book alone that cannot be attributed to any pre-Skunk Works ops.

    - This isn’t just a US phenomena, thus, a shadow story for black ops or some connection to the US MIC alone is unsatisfactory. Although, the Brits and Aussies seem to be knee-deep in this as well.

    - There is simply NO WAY that all these reports are hallucinations, mistakes or hoaxes. Certainly, each of these rear their ugly heads even now, and as far back as, well, Gulf Breeze and George Adamski come quickly to mind.

Most importantly, I use the “magic marker” test: if even one of these events can be proved, within a reasonable limit of doubt, to be either an other-wordly or alternate time provenance, then the proof of the physicality of these events — as a whole, not on an individual basis — has to be taken seriously. BTW: I call this the magic marker test after the trials of trying to remove said substance from white walls: once it has been determined that the mark is indeed permanent, and not washable markers or crayons (or the planet Venus) the only way to rectify the situation is, sadly, paint.

Perhaps that’s what our governments have decided: they cannot remove the offending intruders, nor affect them in any significant way, so they paint over the reports with as heavy a brush as possible.

And here’s else something to consider: the lengths and extents that the US-Brit-Aussie governments have gone to conceal and obfuscate the UFO topic, in the past and ongoing, I respectfully submit, PROVE there is something real and significant there.

This is, and has been, my point for quite a while and an area I’ve focused on in my own personal research.

I also tend to believe they believe it. The biggest question I’ve had for quite some time is “Why”?

My sense is it has quite a bit to do with an underlying belief system that is NOT socially acceptable - especially within the current fundamentalist Christian mindset of a very vocal and powerful group within the USG - and more importantly - a very small, but vocal group within US society.

And I do believe our commenter - “TemplarScribe” has given us a clue with his - or HER? - web name.

  11. Greg Bishop Says:

    Shawnna,

Have you elaborated on this idea elsewhere? Not socially acceptable in what way? Are they worshipping aliens? Are the Masons are doing this?

I’d be interested in your thoughts.

  12. Shawnna Says:

    Greg,

I alluded to it in 2007 here and here

I’ve also discussed this at length with Steve Broadbent of http://realityuncovered.com

As for what I mean by “not socially acceptable”….. if they were to be exposed as embracing certain beliefs, they would fall out of favor with those in positions of political and/or economic power who embrace the prevailing Christian fundamentalist way of thinking about ET (e.g. alien = demons).

I hope that clarifies my thoughts. If not, let me know and I’ll give it another go.
