Heaven’s Gate Again
If this isn’t some sort of elaborate joke, there appears to be an online presence of Heaven’s Gate newbies who apparently wish to carry on the message of Marshall “Do” Applewhite and Bonnie Lu “Ti” Nettles. The posts went up late last year, for the most part in November.
From what I know of the former writings of Applewhite, this new wave of followers seem to echo his longwinded homilies peppered with quotation marks and occasional bouts with the capslock key.
On our website title page it says “Heaven’s Gate: The New Followers”. It used to be called “The Next Generation”. This type of title was just used to tell the world that there are “new and fresh believers” to Heaven’s Gate. Plainly said, we are plainly “Heaven’s Gate”. There is no new light or new teachings. There is no leader. There is no commune. We are all individual vessels that are spread out across the world. Other than survivors, there are thirteen new believers, not including prospects and those who believe but don’t tell anyone. It’s a huge world with a population of over six billion inhabitants.
Christianity’s view of the Apocalypse is false. They think that “the end” is “approaching”. Well, that belief is false. You see, we at “Heaven’s Gate” believe differently. The Apocalypse, according to us, has begun shortly after the ascension of “Do” and his 38 followers. “Do” never said that the earth would be destroyed. He said that the earth would be spaded under, recycled or refurbished. All followers, new and old, know this.
There may be a clue on this site about the reality of these “new followers.” It is apparently a mirror site that was supposed to be taken down on April 1st. One of the authors points out that comet McNaught (about which I posted a small entry) was the brightest in many decades, and was visible on Earth (in the southern hemisphere anyway) on the 10 year anniversary of the group’s mass suicide.
Everyone posting under this new banner seems to have taken part of their first names and added the suffix “-lody.” I guess that means I would be “Greglody.” Does anyone know if the original followers did this and why?
I suppose my final vote on this business is “probably a fake,” but I would be interested to find out if some renmants of the Total Overcomers Anonymous (another of the Heaven’s Gate aliases) were actually still around and waiting for their chance to make another splash in the news by exiting their “earthly containers.”

P.T. Barnum supposedly said “There’s a sucker born every minute”, and I would add, “…and a cuckoo right behind them”. I used to be shocked and astounded whenever I encountered nut jobs in numbers, but I’ve long outgrown that naivete. The world is full of them. Those of us who fall within the general orthodox range of “normalcy” (whose parameters are always debatable)just have to accept that Mansonites and Kool-Aid Kooks…and who knows what all else…are “Out There”, and find our way around them. Ahhhh, the joys of “diversity”!

According to Religious Tolerance, some members of the cult have maintained the *original* cult website since 1997, and thus it has never gone off of the web. Upon E-mailing this site, however, I was told that the address did not exist.
Additional rumours on that site were that all of “ti” and “do’s” lies had been condensed onto 3 CD’s (some 200 hours) and that these same cultists were distributing them at no charge, save shipping.
I have not been able personally to validate either of these claims, and I have found no viable way to contact these supposed “survivors” by which one would place his request for the materials.
