Flying Saucer Music #27

invaders
From the illustration, it looks like aliens are threatening
to attack a Hopi village with missiles!

One of my favorites, particularly for the hook and the crescendo-like rhythm guitar that keeps the frenetic beat throughout.

Once again, little or nothing available about this artist. All I could come up with are references to a ’60s garage-punk type sound and other than that, some guy who makes Christian meditational recordings. One tidbit: it was released in February of 1967, which makes it a candidate for a tie-in with the Quinn-Martin T.V. show starring Roy Thinnes, who was the guest of honor at the Convention of Scientific Ufologists in New York in ‘67. Jim Moseley was the convention host/ organizer.

I wonder if any cultural bleed-through from the show (about a man who discovers a secret alien invasion) made it into ufology?

    The last line of this song says to “watch out for the crooked hand of the Invaders”. On the television show the alien doppelgangers were perfect except for something about their hands, as I recall. Seems like they could not bend one of their fingers (little finger?) at the appropriate “human” joints and that’s how you could tell “them” from “us”. That could be the “crooked hand” reference in the song and thus would seem to, indeed, tie this spoof to the Thinnes t.v. show.

    Bill,

    I had these same suspicions about the song, and I think you’re right.

    gives these statements about the aliens in the show:

    * No Pulse
    * Don’t Bleed
    * No Heart Beat
    * Some Have No Emotion
    * Pure Oxygen Kills Them
    * Strange Xray When Taken
    * Some Have a Deformed Small Finger

    ‘even your teachers…’

    Looks like Thinnes,

    sounds a little like “Secret Agent Man” from
    Johnny Rivers.

    where are they now?

    Interesting site there. Scanned through the comic book pages they had and recognized the artwork of Dan Spiegle, who was a regular at Dell/Gold Key back “in the day”. Pure nostalgia.
    I’d forgotten a lot of the trivia about that show. Didn’t recall the little finger being “deformed”, though. My recollection has always been that it was rigid and unbendable. We used to do imitations of that at school to see what kind of looks you could get from people. Was easier to pull off than having a pair of tv antennae come up out of your head like Ray Walston on “My Favorite Martian”. LOL.

    Mike Adkins has been a Christian recording artist for the past 30+ years. You can find his old 45’s on eBay quite often (Static, The Invaders, and others). He also has recorded several Christian albums:

    John,

    Thanks for the heads-up. I couldn’t find his site when I posted this entry.
