Flying Saucer Music #19

Rodney “Rodd Keith” Eskelin is a legend amongst those who collect and enjoy examples of “oustider music” and “song poems.” Keith toiled for many years as a vocalist in one of many small companies that would take lyrics sent in by hopeful homespun composers and for a fee, set them to music. The result would be pressed on a 45 RPM record and sent to the composer. The fact that most of the lyrics were inept and inscrutable didn’t matter, and that is why I love the genre.
Keith worked under many aliases — this song is credited to “Rod Rogers and the Swinging Strings” and is available on a compilation entitled The Makers Of Smooth Music.
For more on song poems, see the American Song Poem Music Archive.
