It looks like a straight-up hoax, but a couple of weeks ago a messy circle appeared in a field of sugar cane in a place called Riolandia, Brazil. Complicating (or simplifying) matters is the fact that the owner of a hotel near the field is touting it as evidence of UFO activity. Another nail in the coffin: the movie Signs was shown on Brazilian TV not long before the circle appeared. What I find interesting is the effects on Brazilian culture and the media’s ready acceptance of the event.
