New Mexico Cleric Reports “Gentle Little People” Invading Home

mudhead
“Sir, did they look like this?”

Roman Catholic Bishop Donald Pelotte, 62 of Gallup, New Mexico made an emergency call to local police on September 27. He said that something strange was in his home and wouldn’t leave. Specifically, he reported to police operators that “…gentle little people, about 3 to 4 feet tall, and wearing Halloween masks” were in the hall. A news item from the Albuquerque ABC affiliate also says that Pelotte had suffered “a fall” a few months ago which has intermittently landed him in recovery centers and hospitals since July. When police responded, they found nothing out of the ordinary (except possibly Pelotte hiding in the hallway closet.)

Interesting issues are raised by this episode. Gallup is at the center of two American Indian nations–the Hopi and Navajo tribes. What Pelotte describes reminds me of Kachinas, the Native American personifications of forces of nature and the supernatural, which are impersonated by tribal members at annual festivals and religious observations. Since he he has ministered to people in the area, perhaps the indigenous belief systems are impinging on his consciousness since his “fall.” Maybe kachinas visit people from time to time anyway, or they got the wrong address, or it was the right address long ago. Perhaps Pelotte is just “going crazy.”

Pascagoula

This is also reminiscent of the Pascagoula abduction case of 1973, when Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker said that they encountered beings who looked (to me) a bit like kachinas. I haven’t heard anyone else make this comparison, but it raises questions about archetypes and the subconscious which are almost never asked by people who study the UFO phenomenon.

Pelotte will be evaluated by other Catholic clerics who “will make decisions concerning his involvement in the church.” I bet they will.

Have you ever thought about “tulpas” or “thoughtforms”? Check out this wikipedia entry:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thoughtform

I wonder if UFO’s are thoughtforms in the sense described in this wikipedia entry.

I have been hoping to hear more about this, but I doubt I will. Since he was a Bishop I have the feeling the Catholic church has hidden him away somewhere.

Most likely the poor man is just losing it, mentally. But his phrasing struck me as odd - “gentle little people”? Isn’t that similiar to how the Irish referred to the faerie folk so as not to offend them?

    misteranderson,

Search “tulpa” on this site. We’re all about the tulpas. I think perhaps SOME UFOs are the result of this phenomenon.

    Lesley,

Yeah, the Church tends to look unfavorably upon visionaries. A couple of hundred years ago, he might have started his own offshoot religion.

    star,

Your site is interesting, but confusing. I am intrigued by “the “Captain” picture. What you describe sounds like a dreamstate memory. The picture is creepy.

    raeleggett,

“Losing it” in one culture can be visionary in another, but the little amount of info available on the case makes me think that there is not enough to make that determination for myself.

I wonder if Pelotte has any Celtic ancestry?
