What it shows is the ufo community was targeted like a whole lot of other diverse communities, all because of largely innocent flirtations with matters that fell within the paranoia of intelligence organisations. It didn't take much to fall within this net, and very rarely did it have anything to do with the UFO phenomenon itself. Among the things deaalt in the film, at one time the two men were being spied and afterward captured by the spanish Civil Guard along with some communist activists (these were Franco's time after all); they torture them and question them, not because they thought they had knowledge of alien invasions, but thinking they were political provocateurs or terrorists, only to discover they are harmless UFO buffs who had joined the communists because they were the only ones willing to listen things like "brotherly love between all mankind", and things like that.
