UFOs Over The Woods

In recent months, over at my cryptozoology blog, I have posted regular updates on the many and varied reports of Bigfoot, large mystery cats, ghostly black dogs, and even werewolves in the vicinity of Britain’s sprawling Cannock Chase woods. Now, UFOs are making their presence known in the area. The Chase, it seems, is rapidly becoming a distinctly Fortean hot spot, as the Chase Post newspaper reveals in this new story:

Mystery lights have been spotted over Chadsmoor - the latest in a long line of UFO sightings around the town.
Ministry of Defence officially declared Cannock Chase as a UFO hotspot.
A Smillie Place resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “It was about three minutes to ten on Saturday night. I looked into the sky and there were these three orange orbs. I’ve never seen anything like them before.”
The resident said that she watched the scene for about a minute and a half, during which time the lights put on a strange display before vanishing.
“One of them, the first in the line, came across the sky and then just stopped dead. The two lights behind it followed a second or two later. When they were all close together, the first light vanished. Just disappeared completely. Like it just shut down into nothing.”
And at the same time, in nearby Cemetery Road, resident James Douglas also spotted the mysterious lights.
“They were more or less in a straight line,” he said. “It was a couple of minutes to ten. The lights weren’t very big - they didn’t look all that far away but they didn’t look too big, either. They weren’t making a sound. The first one just stopped dead. The other two sort of dawdled up to the first one, and as soon as they did, the first light just switched off, kind of thing. Just vanished. Didn’t drop or rise or anything. I called my wife, but when she came out on the garden there were just two of them left. I’ve absolutely no idea what it was.”

I didn’t realize the MoD did things like declaring areas as UFO hotspots…?

I saw your crypto blog and the item about The Creature from the Black Lagoon. I live pretty close to where it and one of the Airport movies was filmed. It’s a place called Wakulla Springs…

Nice place but often crawling with Rednecks!

I know it can’t really be classed as evidence, (cant remember the date, and didnt see much - but it was a week or two ago) but i was on the computer, and the girlfriend was watching the tv, and she says that while she was watching tv, something in the corner of her eye distracted her from the tv. We live in a 3rd story flat in Cannock overlooking the chase. She said it was the shape of a cod-liver oil tablet but the colour of fire & quite bright (bright enough to distract her from the telly! lol). She said that it stood still for a bit, then descended rapidly. Thats all she saw. I remember her telling me, but i didnt look in time, and dismissed it as a plane or something. But when she read that article in the chase post, she said “Thats what i saw - I told you i saw something!” I just thought i’d add our little piece. I’m still quite sceptical, but I believe she saw something, and it was no shooting star.

Thanks for the sighting report. There’s definitely a lot of weird UFO activity over the Chase. Back in the late 80s and 90s there were many reports from the area of large, black triangular shaped UFOs flying over the woods. Also, several alleged landing cases and “Ball-Lightning” type reports too.

Sounds absolutely like a “window area”. Keel hasn’t got there yet?

that was an interesting read, but do you happen to know what,if anything is the significance in seeing a other worldly black dog,and why at certain locals such as a railroad crossing?

  7. Nick Redfern Says:

    Irishpheonix:

As far as the significance of seeing a Black Dog is concerned, old English folklore used to suggest that to see one was kind of like an encounter with the Grim Reaper - in the sense that it meant that either the witness or someone close to them would die.

So, it was more of an ominous thing to see a black dog.

As far as locations are concerned, some researchers have suggested sightings of black dogs fall on Ley Line links, ancient areas of prehistoric significance (ancient burial mounds etc).

But why they should also occur on more modern day “lines” like railway tracks is more confusing.

There’s a good book that delves into all this titled “Mystery Big Cats” by Merrily Harpur, which addresses this very issue re why certain weird animals are seen in specific locations (railway lines, etc).

The book offers some notable theories - but they won’t please those people who think these animals are all flesh and blood only!
