UFOs & National Security
Rich Dolan provides the latest update on the sequel to his book UFOs and the National Security State. The good news is that the publication date is getting closer. Here’s what Rich has to say:
UFOs And The National Security State Vol. II
The last update on this subject was from January 2007, more than a year ago. I think an update on my progress is a bit overdue.
To date, I have written about 375 pages of narrative for the second volume of UFOs and the National Security State. I am (finally) confident that the book will actually be done by the end of this year. I expect it to be around 500 pages at completion.
The completion of this volume, however, will not mark the completion of my history, as I have decided that the subject demands not two, but three volumes to do justice to the depth and breadth of this topic, which deals not only with a history of intriguing UFO sightings, but the policies (as we can gather them) of relevant military and intelligence agencies, as well as the attempts by private citizens and organizations to come to grips with the UFO phenomenon.
Therefore, Volume Two will cover the years 1973 to 1991, a period of time that I now see has a great deal of thematic unity. As a period of UFO-related history, it works.
I am happy to say that the research for Volume Three, covering 1991 to the present day, is already completed. Therefore, the delay between Volumes Two and Three will not be nearly as long as has been the delay between Volumes One and Two.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the many readers who have encouraged and supported me along the way. When I started on this journey so long ago, I truly had no idea of what I was in for. It has been hard, but worth it. Every bit.

Great news! Along with Greg’s Project Beta, I consider the original UFOs and the National Security State one of the best and most significant books on UFOs.
I eagerly await both new volumes. Just hope he actually manages to bring one out here before long! I know how easy it is to bog down…
In related news, I just read your Three Men Seeking Monsters and loved it. A great read, crackling with fascinating vignettes and lore.

Thanks, Victor, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, there’s a lot of good stuff in Rich D’s book.

I’d order that 3 Men as Monsters book but I just ordered that overpriced “Left in the Dark” book about how eating fruit secretly makes your brain grow or something. Fruit definitely CLEARS out your GI tract. haha. It’s too expensive though in MN.
Still I think R. Dolan should smoke some salvia while it’s still legal. I thought National Security State was a bit soft-headed in terms of not contexualizing some of the sightings and then leaning on the E.T.H. a bit too much.
I mean — look at UFO Media Matters recent blog — there’s no real contextualization of the information, as if all testimony is of equal value and can not be considered in a broader framework.
The real psychological hang-up is not the witnesses projecting their fantasies onto some unidentified object in the sky (say Betty Hill), but rather these repressed science writers projecting their id onto reality as some sort of vast alien techno-orgasm.
We need to grow up and stop projecting the destructive externalities of technology onto those ever-so-convenient “aliens.”
