UFOs in “Beyond”

The new issue (No. 14) of Britain’s Beyond Magazine has two articles from me that may be of interest to you.

The first is on one of the nation’s most mysterious locations: Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk.

In ufological circles at least, the forest is most famous (or perhaps infamous…) for its UFO incident of December 1980 - an event witnessed by numerous USAF military personnel, and that many believe involved the landing of a craft from another world.

As my article demonstrates, however, Rendlesham Forest has been a veritable hotbed of unusual activity for years, including witchcraft, ghostly encounters, and sightings in the forest of mysterious big cats, spectral black dogs and a strange creature that became known as the Shug-Monkey. And only a stone’s throw away, I reveal, is a place called Orford - the site of a centuries old “Hairy Wild Man”-type encounter. If you thought that UFOs were the strangest thing about Rendlesham Forest, it’s time to think again!

The second article from me in the magazine is a lengthy one that focuses on one of the most intriguing aspects of Saucer-Spying: that of the Men in Black. As I note in the article, for the most part at least, the puzzle can be traced back to an unusual encounter with three mystery MIBs that UFO researcher Albert Bender had in the early 1950s.

The story is told in Gray Barker’s book, They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers, and is most definitely a weird and wild one - as is Bender’s own book on the subject: Flying Saucers and the Three Men.

And while Bender’s story has definite occult-type overtones to it, there is no doubt that the MIB motif has been ingeniously utilized by elements of the Intelligence communities of several nations (including both the US and the UK) as part of its efforts to keep tabs on certain elements of the UFO research community and UFO witnesses.

Perhaps the most astonishing thing I found during the course of my research into this matter was a batch of official FBI records showing that, back in 1958, none other than FBI boss J. Edgar Hoover ordered one of his agents to secure for him a copy of Gray Barker’s book on the MIB puzzle.

Take care if you ever hear a slow, ominous knocking on your front-door: it may be “them.”

    Nick,

We are onto you. You know, how you say, ‘too much’. Nobody on this planet will ever see this coin again

  2. Nick Redfern Says:

I knew it would only be a matter of time before they found me…

  3. Victor Says:

    Shug-Monkey?

  4. Nick Redfern Says:

The Shug-Monkey is described as being like a “small Bigfoot.”

“Shug” is derived from an old English word meaning “demon.”

It’s also from where the old ghostly black dog from English folklore, “Black Shuck” and a similar creature in Scotland known as the “Shuggy” get their names too.

The ‘otherworldly’ nature of the Rendlesham vicinity (Sutton Hoo etc) was brought up at this year’s Nevada UFO Conference by a lady during questions. It was after Ross Hemsworth’s presentation where he showed a photograph a companion took of the head of a ‘Being’ next to Ross in the forest. It looked like the God Cernunnos to me.

Also, a little while back, I was staying at Long Sutton (not really that far away from Rendlesham)when I had an experience with some ‘Black Dogs’. The same night someone else who was sleeping in the room immediately above had ‘Black Dogs’ visit her.

    Thanks Ellis, very interesting!
There are a lot of black-dog accounts from that part of the UK. Have you read Bob Trubshaw’s book on the subject? That’s a very good one.

  7. Ellis Taylor Says:

Cheers Nick, no I haven’t. I’ll have a look at that.
I had another another experience of what may have been a black dog near a place called Garsington in Oxfordshire. A creature, more like a ‘manifest’ shadow than a physical animal ran between my car and the car in front, one evening, and straight through a thick hedge. I discovered later that this had happened right on the St Mary line.
