M: No, I wasn't aware of the details, thanks for sending. I'll contact the author of the book, Keith Chester, and see if he has looked into it.

Nick,
Are you familiar with this incident >middle of July 1945
over Hanford nuclear reactor (part of Manhattan Project)

http://www.nicap.org/hanford.htm

"The six F6F "Hellcats" made visual contact with the object described by Rolan as the size of three aircraft carriers side by side, oval shaped, very streamlined like a stretched-out egg and pinkish in color. Rolan reported that some kind of vapor was being emitted around the outside edges from portholes or vents. He speculated that the vapor was being discharged to form a cloud for disguise. The object was observed at noon in a clear sky at an estimated altitude of 65,000 feet."

Walter Andrus reports this from a meeting with Rolan Powell, one of the six (!) pilots sent up.

Anyone ever try to contact/find the members of this squadron, or check for records of this specific event?

Snappy:

Yep, this is definitely a very good book. The significant thing about "Strange Company" is that it doesn't just focus on Foo Fighters, but covers a lot of stories about far bigger objects of a classic UFO type.

Looking forward to reading that book very much. The Foo Fighters seemed to demonstrate the same properties as we see sometimes with orbs 'hovering' around crop glyphs and with those spherical light bodies frequently photographed in connection to psychics and channelers.

The air forces of all WWII combatant nations recorded the activity of the foo fighters. The subject received good coverage in Michael Bentine's 1984 book, Doors of the Mind.

My Panther paperback edition, in pages 111-115, features an interview Bentine recorded with a participant of a British bombing raid over Peenemunde, the site of the German V-1 & V-2 rocket research. Interestingly, Bentine theorises that the phenomena may have been activated by the heightened state of awareness of the crews on these types of hair-raising missions. This explanation conforms, to a degree, with the notion that the light orbs associated with psychic activity are somehow generated by the psychics themselves. Although if that were the case with the Foo Fighters why would the light orbs conduct close circling observations of the aircraft and pulsate and vanish like the switching off of a light and other actions such as mimicking the evasive manoeuvres of the the aircraft they were following?

To read in Nick's report above about never before seen data appearing in Chester's book is not surprising since as Bentine wrote in Doors of the Mind, an American G-2 int officer told him at the time that US 8th Air Force were very concerned about the phenomena.

Ordered that book this very day and am looking forward to reading it. Some stuff on WWII UFOs is included in "Ghosts of the Air" by the late Martin Caidin.
