UFOMac

Once again, a thought-provoking post from Mac Tonnies on the question of whether UFOs could be both nuts-and-bolts and metaphysical.

And here’s a brief extract:

I’ve been dissatisfied with the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis since encountering Jacques Vallee. But sometimes musing about a nonhuman “psychosocial control system” just seems too abstract, too vague and obtuse. Vallee himself pointed out that the prevailing materialist interpretation for UFOs is quintessentially American; Americans like to “kick the tires.”

But could the phenomenon be both a physical, nuts-and-bolts reality as well as metaphysical? Arthur C. Clarke’s “Any sufficiently advanced technology would appear indistinguishable from magic” certainly applies. But even Clarke was postulating arbitrarily advanced forms of known technologies; judging from his fiction, I doubt he invested much hope in “impossibilities” like telepathy and nonlocal consciousness — both of which, I suspect, are slowly but certainly encroaching on the scientific arena.

Mac Tonnies is beginning to sound very similar to my own views. He’s almost taking a “crypto-anthropological” stance, especially when he invokes spirituality and nonwestern religion, and also earlier times of life. Also he’s steering away from the paraphysicist angle. The next big leap will be to recognize that these “spirits” using consciousness are actually nothing less than consciousness itself and we experience spirits as matter just as everyday matter is also the projection of our own false ego. This is, of course, a response of one E.T. finger (or qigong practitioner) out-stretched in silence, glowing at the end, the projection of our own reptilian pineal gland.
