The Marfa UFOs

The mysterious lights of Marfa are back in the news:

It’s evening in the vast Chihuahua desert, ten miles east of Marfa, Texas.

I’m sitting on a wall with Joe from Colorado, a trio of polite bikers and a bunch of beery students. We are all staring into the blackness south of Highway 90, looking for the ‘Marfa Mystery Lights’.

For maybe 50 years, visitors to this area have reported peculiar light phenomena - small gyrating orbs on the far horizon. The lights usually appear at night.

Various explanations have been offered. Some blame car headlamps on highway 67, refracted by the layered air of this high-altitude desert. Others blame reflections from rock, electrical discharge or the ghosts of gold-digging Spaniards.

Here’s the rest of the story.

Nick: I wanted to let you know about Dr. Andrew Parker’s book “In the Blink of an Eye.” He argues that the Cambrian Explosion, some 500 mya, was started by “quantum diffraction gradiants” in the ocean. His research is being used by the miltary for evolution modeling — the future of Earth — with neural network analysis.

The “mainstream” science skkkeptics (i.e. PZ Myers and his promotion of Magic Randi, etc.) despise Dr. Andrew Parker’s work because how could symmetrical grooves create life, the same way they create light shining off a c.d.? Ironically the oldest myth found in humanity is the “rainbow snake” that creates reality through flute music, originally controlled by females.

I’ll spare you the Pythagorean schtick.

The Marfa Lights have been appearing in the area since ancient times long before the Europeans moved into the area. That particular valley was considered haunted by spirits by the local tribes. The area has an eerie, weird beauty to it. I’ve driven on Hwy. 90 between Marathon and Van Horn at 75-80 mph on weekdays for an hour or more and not encountered another vehicle on the road except in town. There’s also mysteriously an Air Force Radar Station very near Marfa. Along with 4 corners area, the Marfa is one of the most mysterious feeling areas in the southwest US.

    Crgintx:

Yeah, I’ve found that many areas associated with ghost light type phenomena are also afflicted with lots of other unusual activity of a paranormal nature too - such as the Big Thicket, TX, and a few locations in the UK.
