Roswell Experiments
The theory - as offered in my 2005 book, Body Snatchers in the Desert - that the legend of the Roswell UFO crash of 1947 was based around dark and dubious experiments that utilized human test-subjects, surfaces again.

Hey Nick, this is off topic but I was checking out Wikipedia the other day and came across this account of a odd bank robbery in postwar Japan that might have something to do with Unit 731:
“Sixteen employees of a Teigin Bank branch are poisoned by cyanide after taking chemicals given to them by a man claiming to be from the health authorities who claimed they were medication to control a nearby dysentry outbreak. The man then stole 160,000 yen before making his escape. Twelve people died. Sadamichi Hirasawa, a painter, was arrested several months later. Although sentenced to death, there were strong suspicions that he was wrongfully convicted, and successive Justice Minsters refused to sign his death warrant, resulting in a stay of execution. During his 33 year imprisonment he wrote his autobiography and died of natural causes in 1987.”
“Several people such as Seicho Matsumoto presumed that the true culprit was the Unit 731 (partly because Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers had pressured Yomiuri Shimbun not to investigate the Unit 731 during the incident).”
Anyway, I think there’s a interesting book waiting to be written about the sorts of things the folks behind Unit 731 might have been up to.

That article has my brain spinning out of control trying to follow it.
On a related note this also reminds me to check at my local book store for Body Snatchers in the Desert — I think I may have seen it at chapters. Or I could be imagining things…

Ben
Thanks for that. There are a few good books on Unit 731 - notably “Factories of Death” by Sheldon Harris; “Unit 731″ by Peter Williams & David Wallace; and “Unit 731 Testimony” by Hal Gold.

The article Ben mentions is covered
in greater detail in a book called
“The Flowering Of The Bamboo” by
William Triplett. Its mainly about the
crime and its aftermath, but it does
cover Unit 731 and its post-war legacy
in some detail.

I’m so glad I came back to this thread. Thanks a bunch craig! To be honest, I never heard of Unit 731 until Nick.
