John Keel: Mothman & UFOs
Acclaimed Fortean author John Keel has written a fascinating article for the new (September) issue of Fate magazine on his personal, firsthand study of one of the strangest UFO-linked mysteries of the last 40 years: the infamous Mothman of Point Pleasant, Virginia that became the subject of Keel’s classic book, The Mothman Prophecies.
It isn’t often that we get to see new articles from Keel nowadays; so I would urge one and all to read this one.
Here’s an excerpt from the article:
“I found Point Pleasant was a quiet little town of 6,300 people, dozens of churches and no public bars. The Mothman sightings had taken place in a desolate World War II ammunition dump on the edge of town. More intriguing, there had been countless UFO sightings up and down the Ohio River all year. Eerie diamond-brilliant lights passed over Point Pleasant every night at 8:30 on a regular schedule. I decided to do something that the Air Force and the loud-mouthed UFO buffs had never thought of doing. I decided to investigate the situation instead of just holding conversations with the witnesses.”

Yeah, it’s a shame that so many of those older guys like Sanderson, Barker, Keyhoe, the Contactee crowd etc are gone now.

The Mothman story received a renovated interest this yar based on the tragedy of the Minneapolis bridge. But as Loren Coleman pointed out there was also a bridge collapse in Southern China.
Not only that, but last week there was a NEW bridge tragedy, this time in Pakistan. Coincidence?

My most recent book “Man Monkey: In Search of the British Bigfoot” also recounts a bridge collapse with a weird creature present: in Scotland in 1879.

Well I finally got Project Beta & I’m halfway through it. It’s great. What fascinating characters Bill Moore & Richard Doty are. It seems like this would be a true assertion:
-Ufology is filled with so much false information that it might be wise that you should not believe any UFO reports.
