Invaders on DVD
Although I’m not particularly into sci-fi, one of my all-time favorite shows has to be the classic 1960s series, The Invaders, starring Roy Thinnes. Kind of like a combination of a 1950s flying saucer movie and The Fugitive, the series was one that captured my imagination from an early age. Indeed, I can still recall eagerly watching it for the first time in England when I was probably 10 or 11.
Anyway, the series is now being released on DVD (series 1 is already out). And on top of that, you can read - by clicking here - an interview with the creator of The Invaders, Larry Cohen, that provides a good insight into the show and how it came to be.
One final thing: about 3 years ago, I had the good fortune to meet Roy Thinnes when we were working on a TV show in New York. I’m pleased to say that he’s a very nice guy, approachable, friendly, and down-to-earth, and not at all like a few egotistical TV-types I’ve met in my time.

Heya, Nick,
At RetroCon I passed around an essay on the Invaders, reporting that Maury Island man Fred Crisman thought the show was about him. I met Roy Thinnes at Roswell a couple of years ago–you’re right, a nice guy and until now he offered the only available showings of the old series. Another program by the same production compnay (Quinn Martin), called the FBI, used Mark Felt as a consultant. Felt is now identified as Watergate’s “Deep throat”. So Crisman might not have been far off in suggesting ties between the TV show and the covert intelligence world.
