Fate on Schirmer
Here’s one most definitely not-to-be-missed: an in-depth article in the new issue of Fate on the famous encounter of Police Sergeant Herbert Schermer, courtesy of Kevin Randle. As Randle says:
“On December 3, 1967, a police officer in the tiny community of Ashland, Nebraska, reported that he had seen a UFO close to the ground, hovering no more than six or eight feet above the highway. When he turned on his high beams for a better look, the saucer-shaped object brightened, tilted upward, and then with a siren-like noise, lifted and vanished.
“Sgt. Herb Schirmer opened his car door to watch as the craft rose, spouting a flame-colored material from under it. He would later say that he saw a row of seven portholes, oval shaped and about two feet across. There was a catwalk below the portholes, and the surface of the object was polished aluminum that glowed brightly in reflected light.
“The first part of the Condon Committee investigation of the sighting took place on December 11 and 12, 1967; that date becomes important later. In the summary of the report, the Condon Committee investigator wrote, ‘Mr. Schirmer felt perhaps he had not been conscious during a period of approximately 20 minutes [emphasis added] while he was observing the UFO. He had a feeling of paralysis at the time, and felt funny, weak, sick, and nervous when he returned to the police station.’”

Hmm. FATE should be available at Magus books in town here, although it’s produced south of town where my ex-girlfriend’s family lives, by the zoo. haha.
Anyway when it’s raining and you ride a bike in Minneapolis then it’s time to sit down for a nice read: Memoirs of a Monster Hunter. Thanks Nick!

Hey Drew, Cool, good to hear you’re enjoying “Memoirs”!

Nick: All I do is read — about a book a day. Your book was a VERY excellent read. I love the ribald humor, the warm sense of adventure, the concrete descriptions and the embrace of the mysterious. I had an amazing flying dream last night over the woods behind my folks’ house, inspired by your book which I, of course, read while sitting in full-lotus doing spirit travel at a pizza joint. haha.
Those woods in the St. Croix river valley, bordering MN and WI, are right where I saw a huge mountain lion stalking my ecology college buddies up for a visit in 1993 and right where I saw the big black triangle with the plasma balls, each a different color in 1997. There were cattle mutilations nearby causing a rancher adjacent to the Carlos Avery wildlife refuge to flee in terror. I was told this by a former newspaper employee in the area who showed me a three-ring binder of UFO photos from a flap the area experienced in the 1970s. She said that the area is part of a military flight corridor.
Excellent read Nick! Also I think I had Chupachabra breath this morning when I woke up. haha.

Agreed: Chupacabras breath is no fun at all! LOL.
