A marketing attempt for what somebody hopes to be a future “fashion” trend?
In any case, it is a poor disguise (especially for a celebrity); the hair, ears, hands and other things are still clearly visible, and (even if less reliable) these can be used to identify people…

Personally I think the “me-ism” referred to about the CARET viral ad royalites for Strieber have to do with Nandor Fodor’s secret motto: Numen Est Omen (Name is Fate).
