Devon UFOs…

The Rising of the Moon

Devonshire, England is a location that is as weird as it is wonderful. Like its neighboring county of Cornwall, it’s a hotbed of weird activity and home to everything from mysterious big-cats to lake monsters, from ancient stone-circles to the wilds of the atmospheric Dartmoor, and from ghosts to ruined castles.

Exploring Devon is rather like taking a trip back in time, and evokes imagery of The Hound of the Baskervilles meets the opening scenes of An American Werewolf in London meets some gothic novel of a bygone era.

Devonshire has also had more than its share of UFO reports too - as my good friend Jon Downes noted in his book The Rising of the Moon.

And it seems that the UFOs just can’t keep away from the place…

Boy, I remember jumping out of my seat with American Werewolf’s first gory death the first time I saw it :-), specially because of the eery misty atmosphere in the pitch-black night.

The good ol’ days when you didn’t over-expose your monsters…

Yeah Devon does seem to be a UFO hotspots. When I was 17 (1989) I went to Germany to clean war graves while my mother and grandmother (both sadly now deceased) went on holiday to a small-holding in North Devon and when I got back they told me they’d seen UFOs virtually every night they were there. Gran descibed them as “silver balls” flying in formation.

I remember being gutted I hadn’t been there to see it. Though I’ve seen more than my fair share of the things as well over the years.

I swear my family must attract them.

You might find two of Jon Downes’ other books of interest: “Weird Devon” and “UFOs Over Devon,” both of which cover strange, paranormal stories from throughout Devon.
