Contactee Spying

The third and final part of my series on the FBI’s secret surveillance of some of the most famous Contactees of the 1950s concerns George Hunt Williamson (strange how the Contactee era was filled to the brim with George’s: Adamski, Van Tassel, King and Williamson).

With Alfred C. Bailey, Williamson co-wrote the book, The Saucers Speak, which detailed his alleged alien encounters and adventures - encounters and adventures that, according to Edward J. Ruppelt, former head of the USAF’s Project Blue Book, went something like this:

“…George Williamson said the story started back in the summer of 1952 when he and a few other people who believed that flying saucers weren’t hallucinations got together with a ham radio operator in Arizona. On the night of August 26, they were playing around with the radio receiver when they picked up a strange signal. They listened to the signal and soon found that it was international code coming in at a ‘fantastically fast and powerful rate’ from a spaceship hovering off the earth.”

Over a period of time up until February 1953 the contacts continued, and a wealth of technological and philosophical data was allegedly imparted, after which Williamson was advised to go and “spread the word” to like-minded people - which he did, until his retirement from the scene in the 1960s.

And as was the case with both Van Tassel and Adamski, Williamson had caught the attention of the FBI. For example, one document contained in the “Williamson File” of June 2, 1961 states:

“Bufiles indicate that George Hunt Williamson [has] come to the Bureau’s attention in the past in connection with allegations that flying disks exist. In 1954, Williamson was connected with a program to be presented in Cincinnati which was entitled ‘The Real Flying Saucer Story.’”
