Except, of course, for the ones whose release would compromise “national security.”

And except for the stuff that was shredded, burned, or never written down in the first place. All of which are favored techniques in the intel and defense communities for _really_ sensitive data.

It’s always fascinated me how seriously people take FOIA releases. Sure, anything that does get documented is an addition to the store of public knowledge. But the fact that something is not mentioned in publicly released files means, quite literally, nothing. (Much as I hate in effect quoting Rumsfeld’s “absence of evidence is not evidence of absence,” which though technically true was a deliberate lie when he said it.)

Sure, the govt occasionally declassifies info that embarrasses it, such as the “Operation Northwoods” memoranda. But that’s all from a long time ago and maybe 1% of the population even notices. Why would we believe govt will ever release any information it actually finds prejudicial to its interests, except through occasional incompetence?

Of course, I’m speaking primarily of the US system, with which I’m somewhat familiar. Things may happen differently in the UK. Things might fall up and flames might freeze things, too.

All very valid comments, and I’m sure when the files surface there will be a lot of people scrutinizing them to see if case-files on various military incidents have surfaced or not, and if not, issues like those you have raised will definitely surface.

    Well, I think it’s exciting.

Past releases of UFO–FOIA documentation in the UK has uncovered a number of interesting pilot reports, radar encounters, police sightings etc, so I definitely think there will be some noteworthy reports in these files; regardless of whether or not there may be more still hidden away.

I’m with Victor on this one, Canada doesn’t appear to be any differant then the stated quo. As mentioned previous the Deifenbunker has been laced with an air of mystery and secrecy itself. Some high up military persons I’ve had a chance to talk with know nothing about it. The college/university at one point wanted to take over the land and use it, then all of a sudden the military cements the top levels and covers it with dirt. They then moved most of the base up against Mt.Benson which is riddled with mines, my bet is they have more then a defunct bunker there in and under the mountain. The land is still highly fenced off. In the last 25 years I’ve heard many weird happenings on and around the Mt.Benson area including so called alien abductions. I can understand why the secrecy though who would believe millions were spent to protect an elite group that pride themselves on using their brothers to fight their created wars, etc to cover up their blood thirsty and natsy ways. Of course, I could be wrong and all the happenings in this area told to me by many are tall tales. Just like the protected elite who are here to protect; but, here to finance underground operations for their own fleshly and warped delights. Truth is a swear word to them and it is not one of their mandates.

I agree Nick. There should at least be a bit of information to help researchers pull some cases together. Maybe no earth shattering information, but all information is welcome.

Interesting news to say the least though. Wonder how much of it will be black markered? ;)

sasdave, all of the ‘Deifenbunkers’ were slated to be taken out of service quite some time ago. I remember the nanaimo one very well as I used to be billeted in it quite frequently. There wasn’t any ufo related things in it.

Carajo! I’ve been tried to enter that web page since yesterday, and still no luck! :-(

    Strange Rob;
From what I have gathered is it was the last to be covered in which I believe was a little over 2+ years ago. The question I always ask is how many levels were there? I’ve been told 2 to 3 levels. I was also told by a civilian cook he had access to the third level where he was to place food trays in a freight elevator and then the elevator would decend, he estimated by timing, he figured 4 more levels. I was also told there were no elevators. Yet, a older fellow told me when he was a kid he seen them drive military vehicles in and they were lower down some how. Whats your take as there is some other info I gathered regarding the locations of vent shafts and excape routes located near the mountain and jinglepot road area. To which is quit the lower elevation and distance from the main entrance at the base area. Regarding the ufo stuff that was mainly in the back area around Kilpatrick Rd area and westwood lake. Thanks for the input SR.

Ooops sorry guys didn’t want to hijack this.

    hi sasdave, briefly:

the only time one would have been able to drive any vehicle into the bunker would be in the construction phase.

as for the levels there’s always been rumours but I can only attest to the standard 3.

There’s actually one bunker open to the public as its now a musuem: http://www.diefenbunker.ca/

Any other questions about this topic should probably be done via email, so we don’t take this post over. :)

I forgot to add that the Carp shelter was a four story one. I guess it would have depended on what type of facility it was, (regional, central, etc…)

  13. strange rob Says:

Oops, looks like my 1st reply didn’t show up. :(

    sasdave,

shoot — in any event what I said was that I can only attest to 3 levels at nanaimo.

The only time vechicles would have been able to enter was in the construction phase.

If you’d like to discuss this further, then you should email me: strangerob67 @ gmail.com
