If modern civilization falls, the primitive tribes will tell seemingly fantastic tales of metal birds, talking boxes and pictures that move and won't be believed. Desert seem to preserve artifacts for a fairly long time. Maybe they'll find some artifact 10k years from now in a recovered civilization and say look proof of ancient ET visitors!
