From a folkloric perspective, it sounds like a sighting of "the good folk," which is one of the polite terms one uses for the fairies. Using their true name supposedly risked their ire.

But the flickering lights, the little balls of light coming together into larger balls of light, darker figures seen in the light--these are all aspects of fairy sightings both past and present. And considering it happened in the woods, and there was the sound of something larger moving in the woods--well, let us just say it all sounds familiar.

Of course, saying this sounds like a fairy encounter is just as likely as bogus as saying it was extraterrestrials--who knows what the proper name for these entities, creatures, phenomena--whatchamacallems--would be.

But this is one of those evocative cases that points to the link between folkloric beliefs and traditions of the past and UFO experiences in the present. Even lacking detail as this case is, it is still quite evocative, and I hope to hear more about it.

All of that said, one of the reasons it sounds so--well, genuine, if undetailed, for lack of a better term, is that it is quite similar to some experiences some friends and I had over a period of years with something or another in the woods around where we lived.

yeah it is sorely lacking; but i think right now at least that's due to it not having been investigated in-depth. Hopefully, the people who have the case will realize that and dig into deeply - I hope!

It is fairly strange, but the report is sorely lacking - just another hit and run UFO story. How close did they get to these balls of light? How long were they there? Is the other officer in question able to confirm the story?
