Ball Lightning News

For many UFO researchers, ball-lightning has about as much relevance to the subject as do weather-balloons, swamp-gas, and Roswellian crash-test-dummies. I know why this is: it’s because they look at the subject with the view that “If it’s not nuts-and-bolts spaceships and flesh-and-blood aliens, then I don’t wanna know about it.”

I’ve always found this to be very odd, frankly: as I see it, if we’re looking for UFOs, then that quest should encompass anything and everything unusual that’s flying (or floating) in the skies above us - and not just those things that have possible relevance to theoretical visitations from ET.

And, for that reason, my own personal view is that just because ball-lightning has nothing to do with literal aliens, doesn’t make it any less important in terms of trying to understand what lies at the heart of it. I would argue that it’s still a part of Ufology - that is, if you are looking for all the answers to the UFO puzzle, and not just those that help bolster your own prejudices about extraterrestrials.

And why I am bringing this to your attention? Well, the subject of ball-lightning is once again in the news, and attracting the attention of the scientific community.

Sounds remarkably like some of the “orbs” seen in Paul Bennewitz’ home. I wonder if someone has figured out how to make these….

Not relevant to this story, but you all might be interested in the March 7 story here of jellyfish-like UFOs. Seriously, http://rigint.blogspot.com/

Hmm, the “sprites” that form over lightning storms look like jellyfish but you can’t see them with the naked eye.

John Hutchison may have made a floating plasma with his Tesla coils, see www.hutchisoneffect.ca , as well as levitation and altered metals. A sort of real life Buckaroo Banzai, sort of.

I still have my money on Phylos the Thibetan’s “one substance” and “night side of nature” to explain everything, Theosophical prig though he may be.

Weirdly, I’m working on an article on this very issue for a magazine. I’ll update closer to publication.

    Erehwon:
Many thanks for this - anything Lovecraftian is always welcome here!

    Euphemystic:
Yeah, Hutchinson’s stuff is pretty interesting. I may do a blog post on him one of the days for people who want to know more.
