New Book on Contactees: Two Golden Age of Flying Saucer Classics

Tim Beckley, also known as Mr. UFO and publisher of things vintage and all around fun UFO wise, has brought us another collection of classic flying saucer stuff. This installment of Two Golden Age of Flying Saucer Classics contains reprints of two contactee tales.

Dana Howard’s She Came From Venus, with introduction by Tim Beckley himself, and Gloria Lee’s Why We Are Here. I am pleased to have written the introduction for that story. (By the way, there is no relation between myself and Gloria Lee.)

Both are stories of contact with aliens, both by women. Both communicated telepathically with the entities. Were Dana Howard’s Diane, who told Howard she was from Venus, and Gloria Lee’s “J.W.” who hailed from Jupiter, truly ETs from outer space? Some other form of non-human being, or psychological aberration? We’ll never know, though I doubt the easy and seemingly rational idea that it was all in their heads is the answer.

Both women’s experiences shared similarities, but they differ in profound, and tragic, ways. Dana Howard’s experiences with her entity were positive, while Gloria Lee’s encounters with J.W. ended in death. Yes, Gloria Lee went on a hunger strike, inspired by her communications with J.W. Gloria Lee went into a coma and died in a Washington D.C. hospital. What of the entity, be it ET or spirit, that infested Gloria Lee’s mind? Where was this entity during Gloria Lee’s coma? Did he/it lead her to that place intentionally?

While the majority of the classic contactee cases were benign in their message and the influence upon the contactee, there were darker episodes. Sadly, Gloria Lee’s story is one of those episodes.
