Bigfoot and UFOs and the Electromagnetic Spectrum
That headline is enough to frighten even the most seasoned UFO researcher or cryptozoologist, but a brave (and wonderfully titled) post over at the Blogsquatcher looks at electromagnetic effects associated with Bigfoot sightings. Be sure to read all of the detailed history of this phenomenon.
Turns out that there are documented instances of dying car engines associated with Bigfoot sightings. Some of us may have heard of the tendency for some UFOs to stop cars (and sometimes restart them) as well. Doesn’t it seem a bit odd that two things that are considered so dissimilar could have the same effects associated with them?
The introduction of this sort of speculation may cause many to jump to the conclusion that I am saying that Bigfoot and UFOs are the same thing. Not so. They may impinge on some of the same areas and have the same effects associated with them, which is a good indication that at least some aspects of these paranormal subjects may have similar origins, at least as we perceive them. The physical effects may be a epiphenomenon of the forces at work when something strange is experienced, or perhaps it is the other way around. Or both.
The Blogsquatcher asks why there are still no pictures of Bigfoot from numerous automatic cameras set up to capture an image when they detect movement. Perhaps the simple answer is that the creature actually requires a witness to “call it into existence.” This is also something that has been argued for some UFO cases. Of course, this brings to mind the so-called “tulpa” theory. You may know that Nick and I are fans of this sort of speculation, not as an explanation for the whole UFO subject, but as an adjunct.
As for Bigfoot and UFOs in the same vicinity, there are a few examples in existence, such as this one, and shenanigans around Dulce, New Mexico (as if that area didn’t have enough strangeness already.)

I liked the story from the guy in Grants about Bigfoot getting into his mind. Grants is about 130 miles from Dulce, but one would expect Bigfoots to have a large roaming range. Well, if they actually roam and don’t just teleport themselves using their mind.

These cases always make me think of the old “chicken & the egg” dilemma.
I mean, we could speculate that Bigfoots & UFOs are Fortean manifestations capable of producing electromagnetic phenomena; OR, that perhaps some regions, heavily charged with geomagnetic energy, alter or augment the senso-perception of the human witnesses, allowing them to see entities that otherwise would go undetected —be those earth-bound like Bigfoot, or aerial like UFOs.
Reading the book “Celestial Secrets” by Joaquim Fernandes & Fina D’Armada, I’ve come to learn that Cova de Iria, the place where the famous Fatima apparitions took place in 1917, is surrounded by underground river systems and seismically active areas.
Or we could also assume that UFOs exert some sort of manipulation through microwave emissions to the human brain, and that since Bigfoot is a higher primate not unlike us, it too falls victim to this energy; in other words, Bigfoot is another unwilling participant of the UFO experience —one could imagine him roaming back to his cave and telling Mrs. Bigfoot about this weird sighting he had of the usual hairless white devils AND some huge acorn in the sky

This is a very intriguing correlation concerning bigfoot encounters and apparent EM effects. This is not a well publicized effect inherent in these types of encounters and it brings to mind a San Luis Valley, CO/NM report (one of seven from the time period) that I investigated back in 1994.
From my first book The Mysterious Valley (1996) page 213:
IMO, Bigfoot, like UFOs, seem to be nuts & bolts phenomena that sometimes demonstrate paranormal and/or dimensional capabilities, i.e., disappearing, leaving no tracks, apparent psychic abilities etc.
This is an overlooked element of research and kudos to Greg for pointing this out. I feel that this observation is also a perfect illustration of the apparent interrelatedness between many paranormal phenomena, which IMO is a telling, under-researched topic.
I have found there are many uncanny phenomenal correlations between divergent unexplained phenomena. And this topic has prompted me to propose a unified field theory to explain the interrelatedness between seemingly unrelated paranormal events and their effect on the individual and culture.

I can’t add anything to the previous thoughtful and articulate comments (and posts) except to say, that Blogsquatcher has done an excellent job of presenting these ideas for thought, and discussion. As some of the comments on his blog show, the very act of talking about these weirder aspects of Bigfoot encounters causes some people to go crazy … so it’s always good to see when researchers brave the inevitable criticism and put their ideas out there.
On a personal level, I always wonder: “well, something weird happened, what the hell was it?” And since I refuse to think I’m just nuts (which is possible) something is going on! I’m intrigued by the contrast between the fact of individuals having high strangeness experiences, and the rejection by some researchers of those experiences.

Well I just bypassed ufomystic and posted my comment over on blogsquatcher and then someone asked how my “wild” response had discovered blogsquatcher. So I confessed it was through here and then mentioned how someone was claiming to have found bigfoot right near where there’s also been numerous UFO sightings, cattle mutilation and human UFO abduction in my area. Then someone responded — PLEADED — to please not mention UFOs in the same sentence with BF (yes bigfoot does get acronymed over there) as it’s already too hard to prove BF. haha.
So Nick your job is to get the BFers to read Fort. Good luck.

Lesley,
HA! Grants is where Richard Doty spent much of his career with the New Mexico Highway Patrol. I wonder where this mind control is coming from?
I’m still pretty sure that Bigfoot is more paraphysical than physical, so their range would probably be everywhere.

RPJ,
Your comments bring to mind the speculation in Jim Bandon’s Rebirth of Pan. He noted that many active paranormal “window areas” are located in places where caves, springs, and other underground hollows (like abandoned mines) lie below. It also makes you think about underground facilities and other reasons that they may have been constructed.
Your other idea about BF seeing us as strange in their perception is still sitting in a post I never finished entitled “We Are Paranormal.”

Chris,
I also found the Blogsquatcher report on apparent static electricity in the air at one sighting to be another point of reference. This is of course a feature of many UFO close encounters.
That “unified field” theory of yours wouldn’t happen to be the trickster phenomenon, would it?

Regan,
I don’t know why the UFO and crypto people are so scared of each other. Most of the population consider them both nuts. What is going to be lost by combining forces and data?

Drew,
See last comment.

I had forgot that Doty was in Grants or still is I assume. Like that area doesn’t have enough problems.

Greg:
Yes the Trickydudes was what I was referring to. Also, your point is well taken concerning the apparent link between bigfoot and underground cavern systems. The two areas along the CO/NM border that seem to have the most sightings are near huge underground cave and lava tube systems. I’ve often wondered why more work hasn’t been done by the BF’ers in this area of research. For instance: The Tewa Pueblo indians in Taos have a tradition that Maasau Creator’s right-hand enforcer/God of Death is traditionally thought to live under San Antonio Pk where many BF reports have originated. It is a free standing volcano riddled with miles of lava tubes and cavern systems. When Maasau comes up to the land of men he is tall, big, hairy and smells bad. Kinda reminds me of Harry and the other BFs.

Arizona Bob or Montana Bill – I forget his name .. he was interviewed on a Discovery style program. I gave him a ring-a-ling. He was upset they had edited the good parts of his BF encounter. He was in Four-Corners Arkansas in his youth .. he’d said goodby to his friend at the coutry cross-roads. Walking past a cow pasture he noted the cows as agitated .. they parted and revealed a large beast man .. a large, headless beast man. It came loping toward him and cleared the fence in a single hurdle. Needless to say .. AB headed for the nearest farmhouse. Pounding on the door the owner looked out the side window in terror .. it (the headless BF) disappeared (vanished) at the last possible instant. Locals from the nearby town had complained of noises coming from the intervening copse and someone had reported having seen this very same headless BF standing in the middle of the field with a “standard” disk-shaped silver vehicle hovering “over-head” (over-torso) .. and that colour beams of light emanated from upwards from the neck-hole of the BF – toward the hovering disk. He was genuine in his re-accounting and genuinely ticked they edited the headless part out .. I remember there was a dramatization with the farmer staring wide-eyed out the side window. Also investigate “Can Big Foot be killed?” Also: “October 25, 1973 Greensburg”. Hoping this as helpful.

Cold C,
What you describe sounds like a mothman-type thing. Very interesting!

I’m at a loss as to why some of these well-populated sites like BFRO and Oregon Bigfoot will not accept a paranormal aspect in their research.
So little of the bigfoot phenomenon is understood (as opposed to other mammals like the great apes) that it seems foolish to toss out so many exceptionally credible reports, just because the witness also saw a UFO in the same experience or had witnessed some other bizarre anomaly like a vanishing. Thom Powell’s excellent book ‘The Locals’ covers enough of the paranormal stuff that it should be considered required reading in my opinion. I will go out on a limb now and predict that humans will never truly pin down the Bigfoot/Sasquatch entity as as simple flesh and blood, evolved earthbound creature. If you doubt this, ask a few retired military people. You might get a surprise.
