Interview on “The Joiner Report”

Last Friday, I was a guest on Angelia Joiner’s podcast, The Joiner Report.

Joiner was the Stephenville Times reporter who was pushed out of her job for concentrating too much on the UFO flap of 2007. After the experience, the subject intrigued her so much that she has presented a paper at MUFON and started learning about UFOs in one of the best ways possible: she interviews researchers. This is part of the reason that I do my show as well.

We talked about (among other things) the legacy of Mac Tonnies, new directions for ufology, and the Socorro case controversy. Angelia suggested that I wasn’t up to speed on the details of the ongoing argument between researcher Anthony Bragalia and his detractors, such as Ray Stanford. I replied that I had read some of the supposed hoax claims by Bragalia, and found them so filled with qualifiers that I didn’t think it was worth my time to pay any more attention. According to Stanford, Bragalia has recently announced his temporary retirement from the subject, although I cannot find any reference to this.

Angelia and I also talked about my renewed interest in the strange goings-on around Dulce, NM.

All around, an enjoyable interview with an informed host, whose name is pronounced “Angela.” (She told me that the “i” is silent.)

Update: email from Tony Bragalia which he asked to be posted here:

Hi Greg-

Kindly remove the November 12 post on UFO Mystic that brings up my “calling it quits” on UFO research. There is not a grain of truth to this and has caused egregious harm. It is an outrageous lie perpetuated by Ray Stanford in a broadcast email that he has recently made to several researchers. I am flabbergasted that such a suggestion would ever be made. I am currently engaged in several investigations which will result in a series of articles. Jerry Pippin had invited Ray and me to a discussion on Socorro on his radio program. I simply told Jerry that I was very busy with my management consulting practice and needed to take the next two or three weeks off to concentrate on pressing business. That is all. When Ray learned I would not be appearing on Jerry’s show, Ray warped this into a lie that I am “retiring.” Jerry Pippin himself is furious at Ray for having started this ridiculous rumor. I do not appreciate it being repeated on UFO Mystic.

There is not a kernel of truth to anything that Ray Stanford says about me- including that I am “retiring.” It is to laugh.

Best,
Tony Bragalia

If you will notice Tony, I wrote that the story came from Stanford and that I couldn’t confirm it. This was also emphasized in the sub-headline as a question. I believe that is how honest reporting works. It is also why I don’t plan to remove it. I would like the discussion to remain open and public, even though it may have been (as you claim) a rumor apparently started by Stanford.

I’m sure Ray Stanford has an answer for this and that I will receive it shortly. If you two want to discuss it here, perhaps that can be arranged in a future comment section. I do thank you for your request for clarification.

Ray told me that he first heard of this Bragalia decision to quit ufology for awhile from Jerry Pippin. Evidently he wants to concentrate on his executive search job. Sounds great in theory, but if I had received the severe spanking he’s gotten over his Socorro articles, I’d take my sore, sorry ass out of the cross-hairs and quit too. BTW, Ray did great job on part one of an extensive Socorro Case interview w/ Pippin. It can be heard at: http://www.ufoshows2go.com/Socorro%20UFO%20Story%20(11-12-09).mp3

Greg — I was just reading your Serpo was a big fat hoax blog post which Laura from signs of the times updated with a comment in 2008. Anyway I had just watched David Wilcock (divinecosmos is his website) who was on coasttocoast a couple months ago and is doing the lecture circuit — relying on Bill Hamilton’s buddy Dan Burisch…. Oh well I won’t bore you but just thought you might want to know that Laura also has a recent “Project Camelot” disinfo expose which goes back to your Project Beta expose as well. But the Michael Salla seemed to take a great dislike to Project Beta!

People are still eating this stuff up.

Yes I quite enjoyed listening to your interview last week Greg. It was like the ‘clashing’ (in a friendly way) of two worlds…

Angelia sounded genuinely intrigued by this notion (that you submitted) that maybe there might be other explanations to what’s going on other than aliens and space ships and Zeta Reticulins.

  4. Greg Bishop Says:

    Chris,

Now I’m caught in the middle, since Bragalia says Stanford made it up!

  5. Greg Bishop Says:

    Drew,

To his credit, Salla is not personally insulted by anything I’ve written. We had a civilized talk at the Crash Conference, and although I think he lets his opinions lead his research and skews his data accordingly, we didn’t come to punches or anything.

  6. Greg Bishop Says:

    Gareth,

I hope Angelia takes the alternate theories to heart and begins interviewing people who are pushing other theories. It can only help.

Once that happens, my cheerleading phase will end and then I don’t know what.
