Mac Tonnies Gone

Nick just called to tell me that our friend and colleague Mac Tonnies was found in his apartment this (Thursday) afternoon, apparently dead of natural causes. There was no evidence of foul play or suicide according to a close friend.
It is hard to find the right words to describe my feelings at this moment.
The last time we talked was just after his appearance on Coast To Coast on September 28th. He asked if I thought he had done a good job. I said he hit one over the fence.
The manuscript of Mac’s last book was apparently complete and ready to be delivered to the publisher.
Nick will have his feelings and more details to follow, but Mac’s family have been informed, and we wanted to get the news out to people who either knew Mac, or were inspired by his original and highly intelligent contributions to the study of UFOs and other anomalies, as well as many aspects of leading-edge science and technology.
Just an indescribable loss. In the next day or so, perhaps I’ll have more to say.

Paul,
Thanks for introducing us. Mac was of those people who are one of your heroes and a friend at the same time. Very rare.

“Mac was of those people who are one of your heroes and a friend at the same time.”
He was indeed. He was the best of us. Words fail.

This is incredibly tragic, my heart goes out to you guys and his family. What an intensely sad loss, his appearances on The Paracast were some of the best shows we’ve ever done, Mac’s intelligence and integrity were stunning. I’m in tears right now.

I really don’t know what to say. I was just getting to know him via Twitter, and he was such a great person. My heart goes out to all who were close to Mac. Terrible, truly terrible.

I’m in shock. He was a wonderful guy, highly intelligent and fun to be around. He’s my first friend to die, and so young (and good looking) too!

My condolences to friends and family of Mac Tonnies. I didn’t knew him directly but from the internet, and I could tell he was very much respected for his intelligence, humour, kindness and openmindedness. A tragic loss for everyone.

What a fucking terrible thing.
It is a bit comforting to know that the world will not miss his book.
Any word on what will happen to Post-Human Blues? That site should be preserved for future generations.

This is terrible. I followed Post-Human Blues for years, and had just started to get to know him better over Twitter.

Hard to accept this, too unreal.

Such sad news. Like I said on the P/Cast, I cant remember feeling so saddened and shocked after hearing of the passing of someone I didn’t know personally.
Going to miss your intelligence Mac. And your many tweets reminding me that there are different (and cooler) ways to view the universe.
RIP Mac.

My deepest condolences to all of his family, both in blood and spirit. I assume that Mac had a physical condition that we were unaware of. This is a horrible loss to the world of a brilliant mind and greater spirit.

Bli’me!
I’ve only just noticed this.
It was literally like someone’d booted me in the stomach.
I literally gasped.
I’m in shock.

Good God, I only just discovered him and wondered why he never replied to my recent emails! (I wrote to him at the same time as I started posting here, if not just before).
