Gary McKinnon - News

Although it seemed that, only a couple of months ago, the fate of “UFO Hacker” Gary McKinnon was sealed, the case is still on-going, still being debated, and still being appealed - as this new story shows.

This guy is going to prosecuted to the fullest extent of US law because he’s basically a stupid stoner! If he hadn’t fought this and cooperated with US authorities, he likely would have been sent home with time served and a fine. Instead he said eff-u, come and get me. He was stupid to get caught and even stupider after he was caught. He’s just another tin-foil hat guy who broke the laws in 2 countries and seems to think it’s a lark.

    crgintx, “stupider”… are you sure?

Listen, this whole sorry affair bothers me, to the point that I felt I had to comment.

Has anyone ever considered that the computer programmers who created the US government firewall maybe at fault here? If I know anything about computer systems, it’s that the people that create the software know how to charge! They will have charged an absolute fortune to create the world’s most sophisticated firewall, to protect the planets most sensitive information, shouldn’t it be these guys who are in the dock?

Remember he hacked into 90 US systems, not just one but 90 and nobody noticed? crgintx, don’t you think it’s the US government which is more “stupider”

That’s like blaming the victim for the crime. No one put a gun to McKinnon’s head and made him break into US gov’t computers. He then leaves taunting messages that he’s hacked into the system? Given the number of cyber-attacks that happen to government computers on a daily basis that costs the US taxpayers almost $1 billion US a year for added computer security costs, did he really think that he was doing the US taxpayer a favor? Horse-puckey!
He makes a wild claim of finding classified UFO files on NASA computers? Please spare me?!!! You don’t break into some stranger’s house and rummage through their stuff looking for private information and not expect to be punished. It’s beyond me why he hasn’t been vehemently condemned by the rest of the UFO research community as a stupid criminal or at the very least a mentally disturbed person. Given the social climate about terrorism at the time he was caught, you’d think that only a mentally ill person would have behaved in such a manner. That said when he is tried in the US, he’s got a solid defense for diminished capacity for being both under the influence of marijuana and mentally disturbed. Any first time lawyer could get him off with time served or at least into a mental health treatment facility.

I’ve made a point of saying pretty much what you’ve said. This is a simple criminal justice matter that is no different than any other… except to UFO enthusiasts who insist on turning MacKinnon into some sort of martyr, because nobody feels sorry for the big, bad Pentagon.

Bollocks, I say. Extradite him, and get this farce over with.

Dave Wood, you are absolutely correct. You have noticed something that the vast majority of other people fail to see or comprehend — that the American military and government computer networks are wide open for any script kiddie teenager to mount. The incompetence and resulting vulnerability should inspire Americans to call for a complete revamping of vital American computer networks, but they have been distracted by that old diversionary tactic of “wag the dog” only in this case the “dog” is Gary and the “tale” is the American military and government. Unless someone corrects this, history will repeat itself as it has time and time again in this regard. Remember WANK?
