Cyborg Nation
Micah Hanks has an interesting new post over at his Gralien Report, which, in part, states:
“While visiting some out-of-town friends a few months back, I had a really great discussion with my friend Rob involving the future of cyborg technology. The gist of the conversation dealt with two main points: 1) that cyborg technology is already here, and 2) that it isn’t as bad as some people would imagine. If anything, practical application of cyborg technology might be quite useful.”
And, here’s the rest!

Now I wish I had listened to Joshua P. Warren on the last segment of C2C — instead of going up to the computer, sitting in full-lotus, and merging into a deeper cyborg reality. Watching t.v. and listening to the radio are bad enough! haha.
Recently I lost my job due to automation — and because of automation I saw dozens of people — maybe 200 — get sucked up by the “Machine” — this new speed-dialer (referencing the cell phone cyborg analogy). But at the same time the money made by the department has gone way way done because the computer could not do the job I had been doing, since I customized my output to the workers’ needs. But the technocratic managers did not want to know this — in fact there was no choice in the matter! Automation away! The cyborg development is very much a top-down process.

Drew, sorry to hear about your job. I got a half cut in my work hours & salary myself. Times are tough but we need to keep on going.
And, like I wrote on Micah’s site, I’m all for the man-machine integration —provided it’s done in an egalitarian way.

The reporters at Gralien are obviously not gearheads, scientifically literate, or technologically savy. I believe like many websites out there, they need help understanding these kinds of matters. So let me set this straight: cyborg technology is not here. Never has been. Not even close. A cyborg is an organism that is part machine and part organic. Being psychologically reliant on a cellphone or other electronic technology does make one a “cyborg” because carrying a cellphone around does not make the organism one-with-the-cellphone — Haha! Talk about confusing science fact with science fiction, but that is such a hilarious thought though! The closest our real life world has ever come to a cyborg that I’ve seen so far is the Hybrot Robot that was operated by rat brain neurons (see http://www.futurepundit.com/archives/000842.html). Operating a cellphone is in no way, shape, or form analogous to being a cybernetic organism.

“Dr. Dobelle would like to have a word with you…”
So now we see there are two devices in the whole entire history of the world that classify as cybernetic technology. Correction: Only two PROTOTYPE devices have ever been made, one for a rat and the other for a human. Your article changes nothing about my argument, since cellphones are still not examples of cybernetic technology being here. When the Hybrot or artificial vision device are beyond prototyping and are in mass production, then you can cybernetic technology is here, but as of today, they aren’t even close.
