MIBs at Weird 09

Well, if you have been wondering where I’ve been for the last few days, I’ll tell you! I was speaking at the Weird 09 gig in Warminster, England.

As many of you may know, Warminster was a veritable hotbed of UFO activity in the 1960s and 1970s - most of which was chronicled in book-form at the time by the late Arthur Shuttlewood.

Of course, Warminster has not lost its ufological appeal: Kevin Goodman’s UFO Warminster: Cradle of Contact and In Alien Heat by Steve Dewey and the late John Ries are firm and fine evidence of that.

Indeed, it was Kevin who very kindly met me at Heathrow Airport, drove me to his house, fed me a superb curry, and then, after I had got over a night of jet-lag, drove me down to the historic town for the event itself.

And an excellent, informative time it was, too.

Kevin himself kicked things off with a lecture on his book (which I heartily recommend to one and all), how he got interested in the puzzle, and the history of Warminster and UFOs.

I gave a presentation on the history of the Men in Black that encompassed the stories of such characters as Bender, Barker and more.

Both Nick Pope and Joe McGonagle tackled the issue of the British Ministry of Defense’s UFO files (albeit certainly from different opinions and perspectives); and fine talks on a whole variety of paranormal and Fortean-driven topics followed, including those from Hayley Stevens; Brian Allan; Peter McCue; Paul Devereux (who I last saw in 2005 while looking for “Ghost-Lights” in Texas’s Big Thicket woods); Mike Oram; Malcolm Robinson; and a pre-recorded video presentation from Dave Clarke (who was on holiday overseas, and getting some sun).

For those that wanted to see where all the action took place on those long-gone nights of the 60s and 70s, there was a late-night sky-watch. The local newspaper, The Wiltshire Times, gave the event a wealth of coverage. And the good people of Subway fed the hungry masses.

Very special thanks must go to Kevin Goodman; Chris Williams; and the whole team from Swindon UFO Research for doing such a fine job!
