This seems like a pointless question to me.

Maybe the materials aren't priceless to the aliens. That seems like the most logical place to start (and finish).

What a ridiculous premise.

Well, that 5th possibility proposed by Victor is quite interesting!

Perhaps to an advanced civilization with a vast amount of resources, recovering a crashed saucer would be as unthinkable to them as recovering a soda can discarded in the desert to a a tourist driving through an interstate highway ;-)

I suspect what crashed at Roswell was an advanced, experimental, altogether terrestrial craft. The ensuing cover-up was probably as much about CYA as keeping secrets.

There is, however, a fifth option as to why aliens didn't try to retrieve wreckage or crew: they're aliens. Their agendas and motivations differ from ours.

In fact the list above is far from exhaustive of human reasons for abandoning a crashed vehicle. Apathy and incompetence spring to mind.
