NSA UFO Documents Online

Many of you may know that the FBI has searchable online records based on FOIA requests, but the National Security Administration maintains a page devoted solely to info requests it has received about UFOs.

The site contains a few articles which are available online or in published books or periodicals. Actual NSA documents are so blacked out or excised that there is probably nothing valuable in them, and they are most likely reports of sightings that come though the NSA’s system. The Agency monitors millions of phone calls, emails, and other electronic communications every day searching for threats to the US and it allies.

As far as I know, the NSA doesn’t really care about UFO sightings, unless they are involved in communications traffic that is combed (and sometimes recorded) 24 hours a day. One former employee I interviewed for Project Beta said that in the 1980s there was a “distribution list” for NSA personnel who were interested in UFOs. Anything involving the subject was printed out and sent around the facility to those who requested it. He said that there was never anything earth-shattering in the stack of papers, but I guess he would have to tell me that.

Amusingly enough, I read that as “NASA” for about 10 seconds.

Oh that page is back. I remember it used to be just sitting at http://www.nsa.gov/ufo which I thought was somewhat silly.

The most interesting thing on there, to me, aside from some Jacques Vallee stuff, is the account of an NSA employee attending a UFO conference in Dayton, Ohio (item #37). Makes you wonder who exactly it was and who he was talking to…

Plus the National Enquirer article being in the NSA archives is humorous…

    Raven,

I don’t know if NASA has a FOIA UFO page! I would think not.

  4. Greg Bishop Says:

    fastwalker,

I bet he or she was there to check up on foreign nationals in attendance. Also, the National Enquirer has a surprisingly good record on many of its UFO articles, as I recall.
