Yep, it’s that time of the week again: another episode of Tim Binnall’s Binnall of America, with guests, and co-authors of several excellent titles (as well as being my good friends) Marie Jones and Larry Flaxman.

Longtime friends of the program, Marie Jones & Larry Flaxman, return to the show for a fun-filled and informative edition of BoA:Audio. We’ll be talking about the 11:11 phenomenon along with the esoteric elements of numbers in general. Among the many areas of discussion include the 11:11 time prompt, of course, and how it seems to have burst onto the scene in the last few years, the Pythagoreans, the problems with Numerology, Y2K & 2012 and the idea of “hot” esoteric dates, Littleford’s Law, Information theory, junk DNA, sacred geometry, the Kennedy/Lincoln assassination connections, and much much more.

Full Preview: In leui of the standard bio/background question, we begin by first finding out how Marie and Larry ended up joining together to form the Paraexplorers and how that resulted in them writing 11:11. The pair talk about their initial reservations about writing the book and how, over the course of researching 11:11 and the esoteric nature of numbers, they became more and more invested in the book. We discuss how they tackled the challenge of writing a book about numbers, a subject that often drives readers away, and make it into both an informative and entertaining read.

We then move into the meat of the book, beginning with time prompts and the 11:11 phenomenon specifically. Marie explains how the 11:11 phenomenon is connected to 2012 in a unique way. We then speculate if the 11:11 phenomenon is a product of the digital age and talk about how interest in 11:11 has grown significantly via the Internet.

This leads us to some discussion on the number zero and how it seemed to spontaneously spread throughout the world. We then talk about Pythagoras, who was known as “the father of numbers.” We also discuss the numerous religious folkloric connections and symbolism attached to the number three. We also touch on how the number 666 is wildly popular in China and actually has positive connotations.

Next we tackle Numerology and some of the problems associated with it, such as how using different forms of one’s name can produce different “life numbers” and that we don’t quite know who exactly determined which attributes align with which numbers. We go on to discuss how Numerology is more of a belief system than a science. As a counterbalance to numerology, we find out where the true source of insight may lie when it comes to one’s name.

Following that, we try and figure out when exactly the 11:11 phenomenon really exploded into the consciousness of the esoteric community. Marie theorizes that we have Y2K to blame for the 11:11 explosion and, in turn, 2012 for it’s continued growth in popularity. We then play a little guessing game / speculative mind exercise where we try and figure out what the next “touchstone” date will be for esoteric enthusiasts and general paranoid folks (i.e. 1984 begat Y2K which began 2012 which will then lead to ?) This segues into some discussion on what makes these “hot” dates so popular and also the concept of singularity and how it may tie into the “next 2012.”

Staying within the realm of 2012, we discuss how the fallout of a 2012 non-event would affect the esoteric community, which seems to be investing a lot in the date. We reflect on how the 2012 will be different from Y2K in that with the year 2000 there was a universal expectation of what was going to happen but with 2012, there are many different opinions on what the outcome will be.

We find out if their research found anything truly mystical about the number 23 or if it was par for the course as far as any number having bizarre connections and properties. We then talk about Littleford’s Law and how it manages to take the “magic” out of numbers by using sheer sample size. Somehow we segue into Larry telling us about his recent crystal mining trip that he took with his family.

Getting even more esoteric, we talk about the myriad of Kennedy-Lincoln synchronicities and get the pair’s take on whether or not there is meaning behind those connections. This leads to some discussion on how, even if we can find deep significance in numerical connections, we still struggle with the ultimate question of why they are there and who designed the connections. The natural segue, at this point, is into the Information Theory behind the universe, a subject which Marie has researched at great length.

Looking again at the actual 11:11 time prompt phenomenon, we find out if you’re supposed to do anything when you see the 11:11. This leads to some discussion about what the 11:11 may be really telling us and it’s shockingly simple. We then complain about how some folks in esoterica seem to take the 11:11 time prompt a bit too seriously or find significance in insignificant events.

The conversation turns to “junk DNA,” yet another topic covered in 11:11. Marie gives us an update on the latest research into this mystery and then the duo discuss the possibility that perhaps humans haven’t needed the “junk DNA” but will someday in the future. We then move on to the concepts of sacred geometry, discuss the golden ratio, and then ponder if the original mathematical secrets allegedly held by the Knights Templar and Masons are actually now common knowledge or if there are still math secrets being held back by Illuminati-types. This leads to some observation about how buildings aren’t built the same way anymore and the classic reverence for numbers and geometry has seemingly subsided.

Taking things to a meta level, we find out how Larry, normally associated with the ghost genre, ended up mixed up with the 11:11 phenomenon. We find out what the reaction to Larry’s 11:11 research has been from the ghost community. This concludes with us talking about the importance of diversity in esoteric research.

Heading towards the close, we find out about Marie & Larry’s working alliance The Paraexplorers. Wrapping up the 11:11 discussion, we find out the authors’ personal favorite numerical facts that they picked up from writing the book. Closing out the show, we find out what’s next for the Paraexplorers, including a new book due in August (The Resonance Key) and another book that they have just signed on to write. Just before the close, Marie and Larry put out a call to action from the BoA:Audio listeners who may want to submit their experiences to the Paraexplorers for their next book.
