Greg

The European AIRPLANE Federation, AIRPLANE standing for Alliance International de Renseignements sur le Phenomenes Lexis Aeronautiques Non Elucides. Babel fish struggles with a translation, probably because its a forced acronym. The best I can come up with is "International Alliance for the Investigation of the Mysterious Phenomenon of Aerial Something-or-other" (I can't get a translation for "Lexis").

They describe themselves as being complementary to GEIPAN ("complémentaire au GEIPAN"). The link in my earlier post above is their website.

alan,

I was caught up in my own nomenclature. I use the term "non-human intelligence" to get people off the "aliens from other planets" idea. As far as GEPAN and interested observers, yes, they are referring to interplanetary visitors.

Great story!

rsalas,

You may be right. I thought that GEPAN at least had the tacit complicity of the French government.

Bruce,

I think that the "disclosure" issue is seen differently depending on the individual's belief system.

Readers should check out Bruce's insightful blog.

Greg,

The only reason I know that is that it was my wedding anniversary! LOL! And while I'm not a pro psychic, I predict that there will be nothing significant regarding this topic forthcoming from the French government anytime soon.

Greg, there's a certain amount of ambiguity to this story that makes it seem an unlikely development.

What exactly does "a non-human presence on the planet" mean?

I can imagine a Western government eventually admitting to the existence of visitors from other worlds, (even though Dicky Dawkins and co.'d be in the meantime doing everything in their power to 'persuade' them not to), but I could never imagine one admitting the existence of anything like the following.

On thursday, a friend told me about this bloke she knows who now lives in Portugal but is originally from Liverpool. According to her he's a bit of a tough guy, and can be very overbearing in confronting anyone who dares to admit believing in things like God, UFOs, etc. In short, he doesn't believe in anything.

So imagine her surprise when he came out with this: last month, (May), he was out bicycling with his lad when all of a sudden he felt this terrific whallop like someone'd just slapped him really hard across the face.

For a moment, he tried to convince himself his lad'd been playing a joke on him, until he realised he could still see him out the corner of his eye, completely to the other side of him.

Then, even as he was still trying to unscramble what must've really happened, he suddenly realised he was now staring into this hideous, malicious, somehow not human, grinning face - obviously belonging to someone riding alongside him, or so he thought, until he now realised not only was his assaulter not on a bike but he was effortlessly keeping abreast of him by hurtling through the air.

It was at this point his persecutor drew attention to its tiny, perfectly formed, doll-like legs by giving them a strange kind of wriggling flourish, before extending its miniature wings and hurtling straight upwards out of sight.

Now, I don't know about you, Greg, but I find it hard to imagine President Sarkozy getting up in front of the world's press and finally admitting stories like that are examples of "a non-human presence on the planet".
