John,

I read it. It seems to be one of those studies that confirms what most people would think about the subject anyway. The point, I think, is to keep a critical eye and watch for creeping fundamentalism in our own opinions as well as those of others.

My opinion of Bell is that he was a better radio personality and interviewer than the subsequent hosts. If we frame the discussion as "the lesser of evils," Bell seems to come out pretty well.

Art Bell will always be my favorite, but I don't mind George Noory. I like the guy, although I don't agree with everything he thinks obviously.

Art Bell is a way better interviewer than Noory! Noory is way too 'new age' for my tastes. Bell filled a huge void in the 90's. As most of his shows were fairly apolitical, he attracted a world wide audience once he want to the Internet in 95-96. If anything, he should be remembered for saving late night talk radio from the sport junkies and the ultra-conservative political cranks. The overnight workers(like myself) were glad to have him on the air. His shows were at least interesting.

By the way, to each his own. Based on previous things he's said I'm gonna guess Greg likes the open lines nature of the show and lack of a screener. I get the feeling Greg enjoys listening to everyone, no matter how wacked out their ideas might be. I'm not saying that's a bad thing- but for me I usually find the crazy and clueless folks who call into Coast to Coast to usually be a waste of time. I find the level of questions asked by them to be no better than the uninformed questions asked by the hosts.

I don't think the show lost anything when Bell left. But I also don't think it got anything with Noory. I've always thought the show is crap. I'm glad Greg felt Bell did a good job despite the fact he didn't even bother to read his book- I always found his lack of preparation tiresome. Neither he nor Noory strike me as intelligent or thoughtful. That and the open lines where every idiot and unstable person under the sun called in made the show damn near unlistenable. Perhaps Bell is the best- what a sad commentary on the state of radio.

Is that a regular thing now? Bell hosting Coast to Coast occasionally I mean.

Ive never heard him and would be interested to hear what all the fuss is about. (not that I listen to the show with Noory anyway, but I hear the show lost something when Bell left)
