Bigfoot and UFOs

Q: Grunt, gronk!?  A: Buzz, hum.

Bigfoot has got to be one of the most enduring characters of the paranormal world, but in spite of the obvious connections, UFO and cryptozoological researchers tend to avoid each other like cliques at the playground. Nick and I have both written about the apparent connections between these seemingly disparate phenomena, and on a couple of recent podcasts, I mentioned the Bigfoot/ UFO enigma. On February 10th of last year, I posted about a strange Bigfoot/UFO case from 1973 in Pennsylvania involving multiple witnesses with physical and apparently enduring psychological effects.

I recently described my adventures at the Dulce Underground Base Conference and how we visited Hoyt Velarde’s ranch to film a segment for a DVD. This is what Velarde told us:

He has found droppings that are not from any known animal in the area.
He has found footprints and even handprints in soft ground.
He and others have heard howls and screams.
He and others have found large “nests” or sleeping areas that are not like other animals’ in the area.
He’s seen it personally on two occasions.
People have had rocks thrown at them from areas of thickets and dense brush.

It seems that Bigfoot-type creatures are seen regularly and have been in certain areas for centuries, but seem to come and go in some UFO flap areas. A carcass has never been found, although another man I talked with in New Mexico says he’s got info on one. He plans to trek out to an undisclosed site and collect the remains for study and presentation. I told him that he had better get multiple scientific analyses and present the actual remains along with all the scientists who do the tests when he’s ready to officially announce the find. It appeared that this was what he planned to do. We’ll see.

Why do the Bigfoot entities stick to the greener areas? Food? Better cover? So that they’re harder to find and track? As far as I know, the only reports of Bigfoot-types in a desert are from the Anza Borrego (CA) area in 1939 and 1969. The Yeti doesn’t have a lot of options for hiding in the snowfields, but they seem to do OK keeping out of sight.

Is Bigfoot a flesh-and-blood creature or a paranormal entity? Ghosts sometimes look like living people and occasionally affect the physical environment (footsteps, moving objects.) That may be a clue. It seems that SOMEONE would have found a body by now, unless the creatures bury their dead, and that would involve gravesites which haven’t been found either. At present I lean towards the paranormal explanation, i.e. I believe that the creatures exist as physical creatures only occasionally. Our quest for physical evidence in support of a theory may be keeping us from understanding the complete nature of this phenomenon. Other sorts of “evidence” are not generally accepted. Maybe that’s where the Bigfoot has us.

P.S. Did a short search and came up with an article entitled “The California Desert Sasquatch written by Danny Trapp, who founded and ran the Southwestern Bigfoot Research Team from 1977 to 1980. This blows my “no Bigfoots in the desert” idea all to hell. This segment was so intriguing that I had to quote:

Throughout the 1970’s several good reports came from the Palmdale-Lancaster area of the Mojave Desert. Of key interest here was the activity reported on and around Edwards Air Force Base where several military personnel reported to us that they had watched Sasquatches walk through the base at night through starlight scopes. This activity was “Classified” by the military, as it was on the other bases mentioned above. The personnel who reported to us did so anonymously, and further stated that these animals were not reported to the public in order to avoid embarrassment on the government’s behalf, since they could not explain what these creatures were, or how they got on the base in such a high security area; admitting this would show a lack of security. The personnel told us that they were told not to fire upon the creatures, just observe. They said the creatures walked through the area nightly, sometimes for several nights in a row, then would stop appearing. They had also been filmed by surveillance cameras, but the tapes were classified. Edwards has hundreds of miles of underground tunnel systems, and these creatures often found their way into the tunnels as well.

Great post! Although one of the presenters at the 2007 TX Bigfoot Conference also pointed out that nobody ever seems to find bear carcasses in the wild, either. That observation has always stuck with me.

The creepiness factor of Bigfoots roaming secure bases at night is off the scale!

I ain’t holding my breath on that one Greg.

    The Law of One has some rather interesting info on this subject;

    I have posted much regarding The Law of One and other related material here;

  4. Greg Bishop Says:

    Pardue,

Thank you. I’ll bet a couple of bear carcasses have been found, just not that often. I couldn’t find any info on it online, at least ones that were found that had died of natural causes.

I don’t know if Bigfoot roaming the tunnels and flightlines of Edwards AFB is even true. We just have to take the researcher’s word on it. If true, it might be due to the nature of the activities there: high-tech weaponry, high-level secrecy, and a few paranoid people, among other things. That sort of psychological stress on a daily basis may have some effect on the local area. Maybe.

Another possibility is that the AFB people were messing with the researcher, but who knows?

I have a paperback entitled Scareforce that relates stories of haunted aircraft and Air Force facilities, but no Bigfoots (”Bigfeet?”)

  5. Greg Bishop Says:

    Travis,

The content of most channeled material has always struck me as containing almost nothing that we didn’t know in the first place, and the link you provided doesn’t change that opinion.

There may be something there that I am not noticing or understanding, though.

  6. Greg Bishop Says:

    BenD,

    That’s why I wrote “We’ll see.”

I surprised to see you frame the question as an ‘either/or’ proposition,
Greg. As with UFOs, I think there is a range of possibilities that can include
    an undiscovered hominid/anthropoid, a
paranormal entity, and a scout for extraterrestrials.

Bear carcasses do get found, quite often in fact-as roadkill. ( I know, the operative phrase was “in
the wild”, but bear* with me.) I
    learned this reading the excellent
    North American Biofortean Review by
Chad Arment, et. al. While being an
an excellent researcher, as well as a
trained herpatologist Arment doesn’t shrink from posing questions that don’t
support a particular notion. In this
case it was the whole ” so where are
the bodies?” question. He noted that the
state of Florida alone reports something
in excess of 200 black bears as ‘road kill’ every year. So why doesn’t anybody
run over a skunk ape? ( here’s the link
to NABR-I think you’ll enjoy perusing it.) http://www.strangeark.com/nabr.html

On the other paw, when someone with as
much field experience as Jane Goodall
comes out in guarded support of Bigfoot’s corpreal existance, well, I
don’t dismiss it. One possibilty for
the seeming invisible ubiquity of the
creature might simply be that its migratory.

  9. crgintx Says:

Actually, most large military bases often have huge areas of what can be best described as wilderness. Even some smaller bases have some fairly dense woods like Austin,Tx Camp Mabry which has a large whitetail deer herd in the middle of a city of over 900K. Bigfeet and UFO’s don’t seem that contradictory to me given how little we know about human development other than at some point 200K years ago, mitachondrial Eve lived some where in East Africa and that through Y-STR(male DNA) testing that our common male ancestor didn’t show up till much later. All humans alive today are very closely related to the humans who left Africa 60K years ago. Seeing the current mainstream human history only goes back 7-8k years ago and that science is very reluctantly admitting that modern humans actually lived side by side with other species of man like Neanderthal, Habilis and the Hobbits, it only make sense to me that if there is real cases of UFO abductions, that the ET’s have likely been doing it for a very long time. Bigfeet could have been an uber-human ancestor that left alone would have wiped out all other homonids and possibly other primates like gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos as well given their reported size strength and intelligence. Think plus gorilla size and early human intelligence, it make for one very scary predator.

I just watched “Dinosaurs Vs. Apes” — a documentary on film history of those two plus a dvd long interview with a famous paleontologist.

Rational analysis is left-brain dominant and right-hand dominant technology creates a “symmetric” math for polarization of light analysis (ecology in contrast is left-hand dominant carbon-based molecules with right-brain dominant creatures).

If Bigfoot is paranormal it’s related to the film industry as a psychological projection of right-brain dominant reality: the reptilian and thalamus-cerebrum (ape) brain enables a macro-quantum coherent amplitude with otherwise intractable measurements of spacetime.

So there’s a vortex — as quantum holographic technology develops psychologically we perceive into deeper substrates of our superpositioned macroquantum consciousness (or paranormal shamanism).

  11. chris obrien Says:

December, 1993, the New Mexico-Colorado Border/San Luis Valley:

During a seven-day period, from the last week of December, into the first week of January, seven “Bigfoot” encounters were reported to local authorities in Conejos County, CO. [which straddles the CO/NM border in the San Luis Valley]

The encounters were all reported within a seven-mile [semi-desert] area… The following events were related to me by an undersheriff. Several days before, a niece of the undersheriff called to tell him that “she had found some tracks that he’d better come look at.” She described them as being huge, human-looking, barefoot tracks…

Descending for hundreds of yards down a cow trail were two sets of human-looking tracks. One measured 20 inches, the other 18 inches long. They descended over a variety of terrain: rocks, snow and bare ground. They were unmistakable. One of the larger prints was so pristine that “you could see toe-nail marks!” I have seen the footage of these tracks, and visited the site and there is no mistaking these classic Bigfoot tracks…

The undersheriff’s niece also related a strange story. On the eve of discovering the tracks, she had heard her dog bark furiously outside. She went out to see why he was barking, when she heard huge “footsteps go running by the house.” Outside, she found her dog cowering inside the fenced yard. The dog had been locked out of the yard. She put him back outside the fence. A short time later, he started barking again, and once more she heard the huge running footsteps and “a twang of something hitting the barb wire fence.” She went back outside and found her dog shaking inside the fence again!

The following morning, while stalking a herd of deer to take photos, she happened to stumble on the giant barefoot tracks. She called her uncle to report the possible encounter and the tracks.

The undersheriff related several other recent reports. One found a mother and son driving back from the mountains just after sunset. As they rounded a curve, their headlights revealed a creature covered in hair with large glowing eyes and pointed ears in the middle of the road. The mother slammed on her brakes. Not knowing what to do, the thing was blocking their way, she put the car in reverse and backed up. This evidently scared the thing, for “it dropped down on all fours and ran away like a dog!”

They proceeded directly to the sheriff’s office to report what they had seen. According to the undersheriff, “They were real upset about it.” This impressed the authorities enough for them to mount a search for the creature. They combed the hills but found no sign of the it.

One interesting correlation to the above, during this same two-day period, a Washington State man reported seeing a Bigfoot with large pointed ears and wings near Mount Ranier.

Two additional reports were subsequently filed by motorists who had spotted large hairy humanoid creatures, at night, next to the highway. One report was made by a trucker who claimed the one he saw was “all white.”

Yet another report was filed by a man who claimed he witnessed a pair of Bigfoot “stalking a herd of elk” on the side of a mountain. He was close enough to see them “signaling to each other” while watching them through his binoculars.

A New Mexico Cattle Inspector who lives in Rancho de Taos, NM, told me he watched with binoculars, “a white Bigfoot” clamor up a rocky slope during the late fall of 1993. It ascended the seemingly-impossible slope in minutes. He became impressed with the creature’s agility when he tried to make the same climb the following day. It took him over two hours.

  12. Greg Bishop Says:

    Chris,

Thanks for the reports! I still think that the creature is some kind of paranormal entity. Perhaps it inhabits our world only occasionally and is probably as surprised as we are when we encounter each other (i.e. we are “paranormal” in its world.)
