Bridging the Unknown

This is slightly off-topic; but bear with me.

As some of you may know, I run the US-office of the British-based Center for Fortean Zoology. Well, the CFZ has a Michigan-based representative: my good friend Raven. And just lately she has been doing a tremendous amount of work: writing articles, doing on-site investigations, establishing new links with people in the field, as well as setting up websites and blogs.

Does the woman ever sleep?! Probably not!

Anyway, over at her new Into the Shadows blog, Raven has an interesting new post titled Knock Knock Bridge, which is a study of a wealth of weirdness at a particular bridge not far from where she lives.

I like stories like this, as I’ve done a lot of investigations myself where high-strangeness has occurred at bridges - most famously from my own perspective at Bridge 39 on Britain’s Shropshire Union Canal, where a mysterious, spectral ape known as the Man-Monkey was seen in 1879.

Plus, let us not forget that several of Orfeo Angelucci’s claimed Contactee-style encounters had their origins at bridges.

Indeed, as anyone with an interest in Forteana in general will be acutely aware, bridges and the unknown go hand-in-glove.

I keep wishing someone would write a book about “Bridge Mysteries,” and one that would encompass UFOs, ghosts, cryptids, and much more.

In fact, I think Greg should do it, as I have a feeling he would make a great job of it. Greg: now that I have nominated you, are you up for the task?!

Anyway, before Greg gives his answer, here’s an extract from Raven’s post:

“Today Jessica and I took a ride out to the Canton area to do a pre-investigation study of the Denton Road bridge and the surrounding area. There is so much history that lies just beneath the surface of that entire area that we’ll have to do many investigations to cover even a portion it.

“As we drove through where the bridge is located,an eerie ambiance fell over the van.It was like we had just slipped into another dimension of time. With the exception of the newly built condos that now dot the land heavily, and the occasional jogger or bicycle, there is a stillness to the place that can only be described as otherworldly.

“We met a gentleman named Don who has lived there since 1963 and was not only able to give us a first-hand account of the folklore, but also had a wealth of knowledge regarding the development of the area as well.

“Don told us that the bridge was called ‘knock knock bridge’ by all the local children when he was growing up, because, as legend has it, if you knocked three times and waited, something spooky was bound to happen.

“From ghost lights to shadowy dark figures chasing cars, there have always been strange stories passed down from one generation to the next.”

And here’s the link to the rest of Raven’s post…

    “A Bridge Too Weird”
That title is gold Nick, gold I tell ya! I guess that’s why you get paid the big bucks. Anyway, she mentions you might be hosting a radio show in the future- please make sure to keep your UFOMystic readers updated if and when you do.

I was just writing about qigong master Chunyi Lin and this reminded me of an experience he had. He went with a friend to Mankato to teach qigong to old people. When he got there he saw, with his third eye, this huge spirits guarding the building — dangerous spirits. He didn’t dare say anything to anyone and very carefully taught the class to the old people — teaching qigong. When they got out of there he asked his friend what had happened in this building and his friend said it had been the largest hanging in U.S. history and it was of the Dakota people. The Dakota consider those spirits their protectors and Chunyi Lin had confirmed that this was true. Ghost pollution is real in qigong training and Chunyi Lin has often stated that a room is becoming more purified as he teaches in it more, using the same place week after week. Once, when I was in advance training, I saw these yellow orbs float into the room and I didn’t say anything about it. Later Chunyi Lin confirmed that they were dead spirits and this is normal since he helps them find peace.

Glad you liked the title! But,er “big bucks”?? LOL, no! Last year, I finally was able to afford (for the first time) medical insurance, to get a car, and move out of a tiny apartment.

I enjoy the life I have, but I often find people are amazed to find how I live, and that freelance writing is one of the most precarious of all freelance jobs.

For satisfaction, variety, the ability to do your own thing, etc I would recommend it to anyone.

But for earning “big bucks”? No!

I wonder if I could get the big bucks writing a book about bridge anomalies?

I guess we need to talk!
