Ed,

I didn't forget that. I suppose I could have asked him what changed his mind from space brothers to a more analytical view, but I think that was obvious from what he said in the interview.

Greg,

Maybe it's my imagination but you seemed almost relieved when Ray commented on the episode with Adamski. What you might be forgetting is that Ray Stanford IS one of the early contactees. Nowdays he focuses much more on science but he made a number of UFO and psychic claims back in the day highly similar to what people like Van Tassel and Adamski did. You can easily find that information on the internet.

Ed,

I have a lesser opinion of the veracity of most of the contactees' stories than you seem to have, but that doesn't make them less interesting to me, and it doesn't mean that at least some of them didn't have some sort of genuine contact with extra-human intelligence.

"Greg Bishop Says:

RPJ,

I asked about Menger. Ray had a pretty standard “He was faking everything, but his heart was in the right place” opinion."

What a surprise! I listened to part 1 yesterday and it's amazing how many times Ray Stanford reaches a negative conclusion about the early contactees. And since he had UFO and physic experiences of his own makes me wonder if he's not suffering from "the Billy Meier / I'm the only righteous one syndrome.'
Ray gives some credit to Truman Betherum where there's a collaborating and intriquing story yet is seemingly totally unaware that similar bizarre encounters transpired in the Adamski and Menger cases. Researchers such as C.A. Honey, Bill Hamilton and Timothy Good set off to investigate Adamski and had intriquing encounters as well which they subsequently reported in their books or articles.
Personally I find the early contactees very fascinating and my opinion is that there's more then meets the eye. Sadly, Ray Stanford's field of vision seems to be somewhat narrow.

Ray Stanford stands head & shoulders above the field. I've managed to record over 25 hours of interviews with him and have written down his UFOlogical life story ()in his own words) that is way beyond fascinating. Talk about helping design the tee-shirt factory! His observational skills and visual awareness are second to none. His skills at finding new dinosaur species and gathering together the world's largest private collection of dino tracks (all inside the beltway in MD!) indicate this is a man with off-the-scale awareness.

I asked that question! Thanks. The show should be up by next week. The server is going wonky right now.

Whatever people think of Stanford you can't say that this guy didn't follow through. He seems like the ufo nerd's nerd and I mean that in the best possible way.

I would love to hear you get him to talk about what directions he would take instrumented research today given the technology now available.
