UFO Disclosure On The Horizon
Micah Hanks has written an intelligent and well-informed article over at the Gralien Report on the subject of government UFO “disclosure.” Both Nick and I have ranted on this in the past, but Hanks makes an intelligent case that, with so many pressing issues on the plate, that the last thing the Obama administration would care about is flying saucers:
… those of us who maintain interest in UFOs and government cover-ups may not see any major progress during the Obama administration… but since I enjoy making money, having food, and a (fairly) stable society in which to live, I’m willing to forfeit ultimate disclosure—for now—in exchange for an administration focused on helping this country out of the present economic crisis. In fact, I say this now, and would say the same for any future administration, Liberal or Conservative, Democrat or Republican, upon which the American people must remain dependent if, God forbid, the economy were indeed to plummet further into the heart of a second great depression.
I spoke with longtime disclosure advocate Stephen Bassett at the Laughlin UFO Congress yesterday. He expressed hope that the openness of the current administration is reason enough to expect some sort of imminent release of UFO information. He also emphasized that if the US Government is “scooped” by some other major power in this issue, it would be a major embarrassment. Like the U.S., most of these other governments have so many other problems to deal with at this point in history that UFOs are likely way way down on their priorities, if it even made the list, or if there is indeed anything concrete to disclose.

I’m sure the thought of that is keeping them up at night.
Anyway, great to see you posting again Greg! Also, Bassett is going to be on the next episode of the Paracast. I predict fireworks- I don’t think those guys think much of the “exopolitics” crowd.

If my memory serves me correctly, did’nt ex President Jimmy Carter back in the 70s promise to look into the subject of UFOs prior to taking up residence in the Whitehouse?
whatever happened…..?

Hi Greg,
My opinion is that Disclosure is further and further from ever happening - indeed, I’ve moved the Ufo Disclosure Countdown Clock back to 4 AM to refect the unlikelyness of the event. More and more I’m convinced that no good reason exists for doing so.

If Obama were to address the nation revealing the existence of the little gray friends, then THAT would be the irrefutable sign that the mythical shit has finally reached the fan!
Because that would mean there’s no reason for men in power to keep whatever secrets (big or little) they had because there’s no power left to amass anymore.

I believe that sometime during the next 4 years as the 2nd Great Depression worsens, the US Gov’t. through NASA will acknowledge that there is extraterrestrial life…. on Mars. If things get really bad(rioting and anti-gov’t violence) they may use a ‘hostile ET threat’ to wag the dog. Logically speaking any non-human intelligence capable of crossing the vast distances of space could wipe us out by lobbing rocks from orbit and given our current level of open source technology, there isn’t dammit that we could do about it.

Obama transition chief John Podesta has an interesting ‘tude toward UFOs:

Also, the new adminsitration has a new attitude toward the FOIPA. So intsead of sitting around waiting for the alien revelations to be doled out, researchers have to go digging, as they have to with assassinations and any other covert activity, and test this new commitment to information rleaese.

BenD,
I’ve never known Bassett to back down from a challenge. He was videotaped debating with Bill “SERPO” Ryan during the Laughlin Conference this week.

Rick,
I think your disclosure clock should probably be moved back 12:01 AM! See my other essays (linked after the post) for my reasons.

Stefanos,
I think that was derailed by “political inexpedience,” or whatever they chose to call it. As I recall, Carter was convinced that the “time was not right.” If you don’t choose to subscribe to the “aliens are here and the government is covering it up” angle, perhaps he was convinced that there was nothing worth admitting.

RPJ,
I’ve said before, I think that there may be nothing much to admit, except that they don’t know much more about what’s going on either.
As for your “no power left to amass anymore” statement, this is another reason why there is likely never going to be any “disclosure.” It might be just too valuable as a propaganda tool.

CRG,
What kind of ET life on Mars? Are you talking about microbes?
As for your other statment, perhaps when people see that there isn’t any threat from any ETs after a few weeks, they may be disinclined to believe it.

Kenn,
Great take on this. It does require a lot of FOIA-ing, but people like you, Nick, and Grant Cameron are already on it, I would guess.

Greg - You are not alone — We’ve just wrapped up a two week poll where I let the readers vote on the time — that said, amazingly, even with my slanted point of view of 4AM —- the median was about 1:00 PM - believe it or not. And, nearly 20% (a few minutes remain on voting) say it has already occured.
