Look Out Above!
This is, without doubt, quite the weirdest story I have read in a long, long time. The area around the woods of Cannock Chase, England (where I grew up) are well-known for allegedly being home to just about everything from big-cats to ghostly black dogs, from spooks and specters to Bigfoot, and a whole host of other Fortean phenomena.
But now there’s this: a flying man! WTF?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has Mothman left his old haunts behind? I have no idea, but I will be keeping an eye open for further developments…

Awesome find Nick. That’s definitely one of the stranger things I’ve read lately. Looks like the newspaper might be doing a follow up. By the way Nick, have you seen this video:

Other folks have reported the growl. Video could definitely be a hoax but given the other reports I find it interesting.

One more thing Nick. I came across the following on a sports message board I check out. It was a thread titled “Most Terrifying Moment of Your Life” and folks were recounting some pretty amazing incidents. Anyway, someone posted the following (it’s a bit long but when you have the time you might find it interesting):
Let me preface this by saying that I have had a long time to think about this whole event and what I saw. To this day, I am still mystified. It was easily the scariest moment I have ever experienced. Almost 12 years later and I am still scared to go into the woods without company, or a weapon. No joke. Sorry for the tl:dr, but It is best described with the whole story.
When I was younger, I lived in a very rural, mountainous region of Pennsylvania. We were the only house in a 10 mile radius, and it took about and two hours to get to the nearest civilization(large town). We have always had a dog, and at age 10, Mack, a 120lb black Labrador was my best friend, he was always by my side as I traipsed through the woods. My terrifying event started this one weekend over the summer. I let Mack outside every night to do his business, and he was normally gone for only about 10 minutes before he would come back to the door, wanting to be let inside. However, this night was very strange, Mack didn’t come back for about an hour. I let him inside and didn’t think anything of it, but when he curled up my feet, I noticed that he was visibly shaking and he was exhausted, lathered and panting. He literally would not move.
I didn’t realize this at the time, but it should have stood out to me. Living in the woods, Mack had run across all types of animals such as bear, deer, raccoons, and bobcats. Never once had I seen him back down from one of these animals. However, here he was shaking at my feet. Not once did I stop to ponder what had caused this huge dog to be so scared. I coaxed him to my room and eventually went to sleep with him curled up underneath my covers. The next day, a Saturday morning, my parents and two sisters were going to town to get groceries and various other things. They normally would let me stay at the house alone because I hated going shopping. I remember trying to get Mack to go outside, and he simply refused to leave the house. I probably weighed less than him at this point and there was no way I was getting him to move so I went outside by myself. I decided that I was going to go fishing, and so I got all of my gear, and hiked over to a stream that was about a mile from our house.
I’ve had 11 years to reflect on this whole weekend, and one thing that stands out to me now, that didn’t at the time, was just how quiet the forest was. No birds, very few insects, no squirrels or chipmunks. Nothing. Basically dead silence. Now, I’m sure I noticed something, but I never stopped to ponder what it could possibly mean. The stream was in sight, when I started noticing what I thought looked remarkably like pasta and drops of sauce on the leaves on the ground this continued as I kept walking. I came upon the clearing next to the stream where I intended to fish and what I saw completely baffled me. It looked like someone had stuck a stick of dynamite into an animal and lit the fuse. There was blood and viscera everywhere, what I thought was pasta. The only recognizable feature was a badly beaten head of a deer. Now, at 10 years old, I knew that a bear or any animal in the United States, even the world wouldn’t do something like this. I wasn’t scared yet, but I was well on my way.
I ran back to the house and tried to digest what I had seen. I remember wanting to call my dad to talk to him about it, but this was before our family had cell phones. There really wasn’t a way to reach him. While I was waiting for my family to get back home, the phone rang. It was my dad, he was calling from my grandparents house, he had called to tell me that they would be a little late coming home. I told him about what i had seen in the woods. Of course, he discounted what I described as an exaggeration and reassured me that it was probably a bear or even a cougar. This assuaged my feelings somewhat but I still couldn’t wait for them to get home.
By the time all this was done, it was about 7pm at night. I remember exactly what I made myself to eat, a PB&J. Mack usually was wherever the food was but I remember that he was nowhere to be found. I was sitting at the table eating when I hear a very low growl coming from the living room behind me. Mack had appeared from wherever he was hiding and was hunched in the living room with his fur on end and he was growling this really low, guttural growl. Our living room had windows all over the place that gave a panoramic view of the lawn and woods around our house pretty much. Anything that is in the yard can be seen from the living room, but as I looked out to see what Mack was growling at, there was nothing.
Suddenly, out of my peripheral vision, I caught movement on the left hand side of the house. I saw what looked like a man walking behind some trees on the perimeter of our lawn. I remember thinking that it was probably just a lost hunter or something. I would lose sight of the person periodically but he continued working his way around the outside of our lawn. Suddenly, and this happened almost exactly like you see in the movies, the person walked into a clearing and I saw something that I will never forget. It was some kind of creature, definitely not a man, hairy and very tall and ape like. The thing stood there for a moment, and I swear to god, this thing looked straight at me. It was the eeriest feeling, I ever have had and probably ever will experience. Then it continued around the house and disappeared into the trees.
Soon after, my parents came home and they found me in my room at the bottom of my bed under the covers with the bedroom door locked and all the curtains drawn. When they finally calmed me down, I told them what I saw but I don’t think they believed me. We lived in that house for another year or so, but it was never the same.
What did I see? I sincerely think I saw Bigfoot. I am the biggest skeptic around, but I can’t deny what I saw.
TL:DR, but that is my supremely terrifying experience

Ugh. Must’ve screwed up the format for comments with that link I provided. You can delete if you want to get them looking normal.

Ben
Cheers for the Bigfoot story, which was very interesting indeed! I tried emailing you to chat more about it at the email address that was attached to your comment when it arrived in my In-Box. Unfortunately, it bounced back to me, however. But a very intriguing account - thanks!
