Interesting account. I’d guess he would have been flying an F-86D, which
armed with a pack of unguided rockets
that popped out of the bottom of the
aircraft.

Yeah, he never did see it. I think it was the case that he saw it vanish from his screen, not saw it literally vanish before him.

When I read the news about that sighting, I was under the impression that the radar blip disappeared suddenly; and that neither the pilot nor his accompanying wingman had eye contact with it.
