New Gray Barker Biopic
There are now two films profiling legendary ufo writer and hoaxer Gray Barker. Whispers From Space, directed by my friend Ralph Coon, was released in 1995, and it is a respectful and quirky portrait of a complicated man with a great sense of humor, an enduring fascination with UFOs and the paranormal, and many secrets. It is available at Amazon (unfortunately, it’s currently got a price tag of almost $100.00)
A new entry in the Barker film biography parade recently made its debut at the Mothman festival in Point Pleasant, WV. Shades of Gray looks like a straightforward treatment of the Barker legend for the non-UFO crowd. The website for the film is tantalizing:
SHADES OF GRAY peels the layers off one of the great American hoaxsters of the late twentieth-century. Part Fox Mulder, part Mark Twain, Barker almost single-handedly created or perpetuated much of what is now taken as the “gospel” of UFO’s. In some ways, his entire life was as much a myth as anything he ever wrote. This documentary strives to present a complete picture of a complicated, and ultimately influential, modern American myth-maker.
Perhaps director Bob Wilkinson will be appearing at a film festival near you (or me) in the near future. Let’s hope this one is released on DVD soon.
Thanks to Tim Cridland for the tip.
