Unveiling Bigfoot?

Okay, this isn’t a UFO story, but since we have a “Strange Creatures” category at the site for our posts, I figured I’d mention it. It’s the “Bigfoot Body” saga that has been growing steadily in the cryptozoological community over the last few weeks and that is destined to reach feverpitch level this coming Friday. If you know what I’m talking about, or even if you don’t, here’s the very latest on the story from Loren Coleman.

What’s your opinion on this one, Nick?

  2. TommyGun Says:

    I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

  3. BenDoverEsq. Says:

I am in disbelief. Those freakin’ guys?! Nick, did you see the videos those two put up? They were beyond ridiculous. And then they got involved with Biscardi. I mean, it will suck so bad if these are the guys who present the evidence to the world. I’m very skeptical and yet for Loren to say this could be it. I have to admit, I’m excited. And yet a part of me asks- why are they just presenting DNA evidence and photos and not the body. This could all be a very elaborate hoax. And yet against my better judgment I’m excited to see what they produce. What if this is it?! Oh how sweet to say IN YOUR FACE to the debunkers. But I hope these guys didn’t kill it (assuming they really have one) and just found it already dead. If this turns out to be legit- contacting my bro to let him know. This could be big!

  4. Nick Redfern Says:

    Guys:
As for my opinion, I’d say I’m very intrigued, excited, but highly cautious too, and in equal measures.
There are a lot of questions that need answering, but as with Ben I find that Loren’s comments are very eye-opening.

  5. red pill junkie Says:

I too am part skeptical & hopeful.

With Mitchell’s claims and now this, 2008 has turned into the Fortean Summer! ;-)

  6. BenDoverEsq. Says:

I don’t know how to provide links but I saw a color pic of it in the freezer on a bigfoot forum. Judging from the Youtube videos these guys put out (and then pulled) and who they are involved with I’m thinking fake. Until the body itself is examined by reputable folks and DNA tests are done by folks who we are certain are legit- I’ve just gotta lean towards hoax. I feel like Mulder- I want to believe. LOL! Having said that, looking at the photo, if it’s a hoax these two guys put a bit more effort into it than I thought they were capable of. Skeptical but I have to admit, excited. But so many red flags around the folks presenting this.

  7. red pill junkie Says:

New photo been released over at Cryptomundo.

    They certainly have my attention.

  8. Nick Redfern Says:

    RPJ:

A fortean summer is a perfect description, regardless of where all these various stories go! I have posted a couple of things about the latest on the Bigfoot photos at my cryptozoology blog:

    http://monsterusa.blogspot.com/

    Ben:

I’m kind of in that I-want-to-believe mode too. But I think whatever it may be, we may know soon.

  9. BenDoverEsq. Says:

You know, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I want it to be a hoax. I want the evidence as much as the next person but not like this. I find myself growing disgusted by this circus like atmosphere. I don’t know, for some reason, if that pic is real it really pisses me off. If this is not a hoax it feels really wrong. And then to hear Biscardi say they are going to track down and catch a live one- the last thing I want is a bunch of crazies going through the woods hunting down the last of these creatures. So from being skeptical but really excited when I read that Loren felt good about it to feeling it’s a hoax to hoping it’s a hoax. The guys behind this- I just don’t have a good feeling about them. But if this is real- I just feel there should be a bit more dignity to the whole affair. It feels sleazy and wrong to me. Hard to explain. I guess I don’t like the idea of Biscardi and crew trying to catch one…A lot of folks into bigfoot are big time hunters and I don’t think they give a damn if they get it alive or dead. And if they did catch one alive and put it in a cage on display- how freaking sad would that be. And if that pic is real there’s something very sad about it- lying in the freezer like that with it’s guts out. Yeah, I hope I’m right that this is a hoax. And if it is not a hoax then whatever ones are left in that area will be hunted down and thrown into a zoo or something. And did I mention I have a bad feeling about the people behind it? As in I don’t trust them at all. Okay, through rambling. But I hope it’s a hoax.

  10. red pill junkie Says:

Ben, I whoheartedly agree with you on the disasteful manner this whole business has been conducted by those Georgia guys.

Then again, if you think about it, Columbus was a real jerk and a media hog too. First the idio was dead wrong about his assumptions of the distance between Europe and the indies, but he was smart enough to turn his failure into success. And let’s not forget the circus he devised when he returned to the Catholic kings’ court! A bombastic parade of parrots & nude indians.

Who said Destiny doesn’t have a quirck sense of humor? :-)

I’m still skeptical but my hope has certainly grown a notch.

  11. BenDoverEsq. Says:

Here is part of a post from Bigfoot Forum:
“I’m fairly certain (based on dozens of autopsies of very real and very dead apes at lots of different stages of decay, and hundreds of other animals) that those are not the guts (theoretically the small intestines though these look like large intestines of some smallish herbivore) of a 500 pound plus animal that’s been dead for over a week (or any more than probably 12 hours). Even if it’s intestines were that small (which they probably wouldn’t be) they would be closer to purplish-black in color (because of normal decay) unless they immediately deep froze the entire animal (to the core) within hours of death and then just unfroze them. That didn’t happen right? So those are not it’s guts. Even if they found it totally fresh (unlikely) and immediately tossed it into a standard freezer, it would take many hours for the core to cool and in the meantime the normal enzymes and bacteria would go work breaking the intestines down. They do claim to have found this dead in GA, in Aug, and have spent hours hauling it out of the woods, right?”

  12. BenDoverEsq. Says:

Also seems that a mask has been discovered which is part of a costume that can be ordered online that looks pretty similar to the head in the freezer.

  13. drew hempel Says:

Admittedly I haven’t read Coleman’s link — but the mention of corporate tie-ins is prima facie evidence for this being the “truth” in the sense that science IS a commodity fetish.

I say the REAL bigfoot will always remain unveiled (not that he’s a cross-dresser or anything… or did I just stick my big foot in my… umm).

Anyway the first test should have been hydrogen sulfide as everyone knows Bigfoot is a garlic lover. Besides this reminds me a hell a lot of the Scooby Doo and Nessie movie.

  14. mister ecks Says:

The discovery of the Halloween Sasquatch mask cinches this as a hoax. It’s just way too similar to the photos of the “body”.

Also have you seen the alleged discoverers’ website? Laughable.

  15. mister ecks Says:

I mean, I’d love to be proved wrong, but…

  16. uth Says:

I wouldn’t worry too much about people hunting them down and capturing live ones. Look how long it took to just get this one (if it is even legit, that is)
