Adventures of the Supernatural: Stories From Beyond and the Fifth Dimension
How long this has been pinned to my bulletin board, I don’t know. It’s certainly a good example of cultural flotsam drifting around the sargasso sea of strange. I can’t even remember where I picked it up–maybe in the dusty bins in the back of an “antique shop” or a thrift store. Or it might have been at the Salvation Army store in Sierra Vista, Arizona in 2004, where I also found a copy of the acclaimed potboiler Jerry Finds Ants.
That cover is priceless. It looks like someone used it as the model for the Haiti UFO video hoaxes. Is the flying saucer coming out of some sort of time door, or has it scored a direct hit on something? It also appears that the city in the background has been set afire. Did the aliens cause it, or are they arriving to put a stop to the destruction? There is no hint on the cover, unless “Vengeance Comes From the Past” has something to do with it. And what happened to that dude’s shirt? Is he dancing or about to fall over?
Even though I’ve had this magazine for years, I’ve never bothered to actually read it, but the titles of the articles should intrigue anyone:
The Marriage of the Dead
Christmas In Hell
Night of the Wolves
The Old Haunted House
The Assassin Lives In The 22nd Century
The Lost City of the Incas
Looks like a kick-ass publication. Maybe RPJ can correct my translations if they are inaccurate.

Well, you forgot Vengeance comes from the Past, right after Christmas in Hell, but all in all I woudln’t have done it better myself
Of course, if you need help translating the whole text of the articles, I’ll be more than happy to assist.

RPJ,
Thank you, but I did include that one in the second paragraph when I was discussing what is depicted on the cover.
Maybe I can send copies to you and Scott Corrales and see who gets it done first.

There’s something magical about those old magazines with painted cover arts from the 50s, 60s & 70s. In Spain they had these really great publications run by Dr. Fernando Jiménez del Oso—’Más Allá’, ‘Espacio y Tiempo’, ‘Enigmas’— that were real head-turners compelling you to lift the magazine from the newstands and take it home with you—paying for it in advance of course
Those magazines are still around, but during the early 90s they switched to CGI and Photoshop collages for economic reasons ,which are still pretty good, but definitely not the same for a nostalgic fellow like me.

Hi Greg -
My dance card’s a bit full at the moment, but I’d be delighted to translate some of the articles. There were some excellent UFO/paranormal magazines from the same time period as this one, such as “Karma 7″, “Mundo Desconocido”, “DUDA” (all pulp, orange grey and black ink, amazing artwork!)and many others. It’s a shame that most people interested in the phenomenon will never get a chance to see them.
Over the hills and far away,
Scott

Hey Scott,
I don’t think I was totally serious about the translation job. With my limited Spanish I can understand about 75% or more of the magazine, and there’s not really anything earth-shattering in the text. It’s kind of like watching El Santo movies for me.
If you want, I can send you some scans of anything that looks interesting–for entertainment purposes only you understand!
I’d like to see some of those other pulps you wrote about sometime.
