Rather than being some sort of DMT homunculus vision on the part of these two dudes -- I would say that this short person with a magnetic field is more likely a phallic projection. It's the whole "hairy" hang-up that is the give away, besides the fact that the short magnetic person has an even shorter left ear and left arm (just like a male's testicle asymmetry).

The lack of reports may be climatic. The "short hairy dwarf" stories in South America predate ufology. Part of the folklore (or perhaps "cryptozoology") of places like Trinidad and Guyana has always been the "buck" or "baku", a short human-like being well known to rural dwellers (typically described as hairy and of extreme physical strength). Since almost all the plants or animals that exist in Trinidad and Guyana would also be found in Venezuela and other parts of SA, the same is likely for the "baku".

It is interesting the the hairy dwarf - UFO connection started in Venezuela in the 1950s (i.e. within the flying saucer age), mainly through encounters by urban-dwelling Venzuelans, who may have been unaware of the "baku" and decided that this must be part of the "new" space-alien phenomena reported from the north.

So, the introduction of hairy dwarves to ufology is uniquely South American, but they may be totally unrelated to UFOs. But the whole idea of shorter "humans" with strange powers is part of European folklore (fairies, trolls, leprecauns, etc) as well as all other parts of the world - only the stories are not usually classified with UFO. Perhaps all these stories are in fact related to something like the "hobbit" hominid remains recently found in Oceania.

Having said that, the report of shorter beings - "glowing or luminescent, protected by magnetic fields", seems to be something totally different...

RPJ,

Could be a big hoax, but it's still a fun story. Thanks for the context. Often overlooked, but important.

<i>"Perhaps there is an openness of the press and people of Argentina and South America that is not present elsewhere."</i>

Perhaps the argentinian government desires to thwarth the attention of the public from the current pressing problems caused by farmer riots to these exotic events. Better keep the people talking about glowing little men than about ways to overthrow Madame President Kirchner ;-)

We must never loose sight of the context. These events never happen on a cultural vacuum.

And oh! don't forget that video that was very famous in the 90s, of a glowing midget filmed on a field close to a hom in Puebla, Mexico—the film was later labeled a hoax, but Jaime Maussan had a field day with that one for many years.
