I find it sad and curious that no flight plan was filed. Such a simple act, left undone, that could have, if not saved his life, might have at least given investigators a clue as to where to find his body, so his family could have closure.

The story--oh, it sounds like someone is having fun with a tragic event. Which is also sad, but also part of the Fortean experience.

It sounds rather like a variant on the good folk who live underground or the Shaver mystery. Or the little people that the Native Americans said lived underground and sometimes kidnapped people--the Rock Babies, I think they are popularly called in English.

I do feel sad for his wife, though--first losing her husband and then having these weird rumors fly. I know it would push my temper a bit were I she.

Wow that is interesting!

But I got to say: whenever I hear someone say "I don't want media attention" And its got big media attention, I have to wonder when the book or movie is coming out. ;)

You are right, now that you said that I remember Dames saying that. So it must have been SDM.

He is always going to send that search team and they either never go or never find anything. :-)

I know Ed Dames said on C2C that he was 100% certain Fossett was dead, and he gave specific coordinates where his plane was likely to be found, and was going to send out his own search team (!) But Morton may have described the underground base scenario.

As funny as it sounds Ed Dames (or was it SDM, I get them confused) knows where he is and that he isn't dead. If I remember right he was suggesting that Fossett had been captured and taken to some underground base. Yeah, on c2c.

Ben,

Interesting news. It seems that we have two stories now, both believable. He could have crashed doing either activity, although a "joyride" may be more plausible since he may not have been keeping as careful a watch on his altitiude or fuel, etc. Even the most experienced pilots can make mistakes.

There is also the possibility that his wife is covering up something, perhaps to save his reputation or discourage people like this "M" from spreading rumors, or both.

Richelle,

Yes, that's what I thought. Just a pretty good tale that could be kicked around on C2C and the internet.

I wonder if they found any bodies in the old plane wrecks? Being who he was, Perhaps Fossett's misadventure was the only one that was followed up with more effort.

It is an interesting, but dubious story.

There's a part where this guy tells that Fosset told him during a phone conversation, that he had taken some UFO investigator to see this weird inter-dimensional "portal", but that neither of them had had the courage to step inside it.

So, who was this UFO investigator?

I think it is complete bs but it's a heck of a story. The part where Steve pays a visit to his wife is also interesting. With all the planes that have gone missing in that area I think it's only a matter of time before a book comes out creating a new Bermuda Triangle mythology. Anyway, when I read what this guy was saying I thought of the press conference scene from Raising Arizona:
"lt's rumored your son
was abducted by UFOs."
"Don't print that, son. lf his mama reads that, she's just gonna lose all hope."
Of course with Steve Fosset it is no laughing matter- his wife recently had him declared dead. By the way Greg, I thought I had recently read that his wife said it was basically a joyride he was on- that he was not doing reconnaisance for a land speed record as had been originally reported.

I'll have to go back and see who the guest was (actually now, I'm thinking it may have been a caller on open lines)did suggest to George that Fossett had been hied away to another dimension. I believe that idea had a bit of lingering power; I think it was referred to at least a couple more times. This is way prior to M. Maybe it's inevitable because of Fossett's adventurer/explorer reputation--but many many people 'go missing' in small planes; just look how many they found on the search for him. It's not that big a mystery.
